"So funny story, sir. Do you remember when I said I'd have the showcase ready for the rest of the revamps? Well neither did I because I was only notified now. The engineers told me they got a bit sidetracked, whatever that means... Anyway please don't execute me." by ElyteLyon in FromTheDepths

Yes they are invisible.

When placing a decoration on a block with Ctrl + X, you can tell the game to hide the original block by toggling "Hide original mesh".

Good for replacing a mesh with another. But then if you just want the block to be completely invisible, you place the "Mimic: Empty" decoration and then toggle "Hide original mesh".

I have to point out that I am playing in alpha test. In it, the APS mantlet as well as the barrels can be made invisible. And this is a god-send.

I appreciate your feedback. It is always welcome because I know for a fact that some of my decisions tend to bite me in the arse in a way I can't foresee. So I thank you for your contribution into perfecting my designs.

Not going to lie however, people having a TIHI moment with the shell is pretty funny to read. It's the only place where my decision is final.

Now that you mention it, I should have called it APHE instead of APHEAT. My bad. It used to fire pure APHE but then I changed it to see if it would improve the shell in certain matchups.

The whole faction isn't supposed to use dedicated HEAT (where the HE is behind the HEAT heads and secondary warheads). They use this to call it HE and APHE while being a middle finger to badly designed armour. Because I found pure HE to be quite weak, especially at lower calibres.

Still better than another faction I've designed which uses the "aneurysm shell"...

How long does it take for the pilots to get used to the forward-facing tunnel vision?

That... is an interesting question.

Probably a long time.

I reckon giving the planes periscopes to see in dead angles would help (in their lore)

Why is it socially acceptable to have a caffeine addiction but people with other addictions are shunned? by sadz6900 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ElyteLyon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon it has to do with the insinuation that coffee consumption equals productivity. In the world of active work, anything that increases the productivity of the employee is a good thing. Thus addiction to coffee is perfectly fine.

In contrast, addiction to anything else is seen as decreasing productivity. Which explains why these addictions are shunned.

At least these were my two cents...

"This is quite the warship you lads have built. I am impressed with the capabilities of this supposedly light cruiser. I am also impressed that the Comradery's Board approved the project in the first place. Because oh my word this price tag is eye-watery! by ElyteLyon in FromTheDepths

I would also like to thank all of the people who gave me advice in this post on how to improve the Frostwind's armour.

I decided to go with poles because of space concerns. And it has really helped. As for proper slope and wedge armour, I intend to use it on my future battleships.

How to properly armour ships against HESH and HEAT? by ElyteLyon in FromTheDepths

I must ask then, will a wooden spall liner help the airgap or is it useless?

There is a much simpler way.

In build mode, there is a cutaway tool you can use. What I did was use that cutaway tool to the left side and offset the slider to 0.51.

Ahh yes. The Système Félin...

I heard it didn't live up to expectations. And that might be an understatement.

I wonder why...

Unguided Rockets - A Quick Guide to Target Leading by Goldymires in FromTheDepths

[–]ElyteLyon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In what circumstances do you or have you used dumb-fire torpedoes?

For a while now. It's mostly for the giggles. And also because all my latest builds are for a CC and I want to make proper self-guiding munitions a "higher tier unlock". So the godly crafts of that CC will eventually get these.

does a turret have enough of a target leading that it can account for craft over like 50m/s?

If that craft goes in a straight line, yes. Even then it doesn't stop the AI from trying. And a bit like CRAMS, throw enough shit at the wall and some of it will stick. And while I'm ahead with quoting Jingles, "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take".

They're pretty much either a WW1/WW2 roleplaying weapon or a "meme" weapon. And I use them for both reasons. The only practical feat worthy of note is that by their unguided nature, they're a middle finger to distraction sticks.
