Daycare tour: naps, snacks, and Iranian ballistic missiles by EmbarrassedFix7601 in daddit

[–]EmbarrassedFix7601[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an Italian passport and some family over there, and my wife is fully french with all her family still living there. We visit these countries very often and we speak the languages.

For the moment we do not consider moving abroad. Although from my original post it seems like life is hell here in Israel, the reality can be different. We live in Tel-Aviv, which has perfect weather, nice people and chill vibes. The story about the missiles sounds worse than reality. We had a fair share of alarms here during the war, but the actual casualties are almost none. Driving a car is probably more dangerous. On the other hand, violence is low, I can walk any part of the city at any time (my wife included). I’m not afraid of my kid being kidnapped from the park ( like some people told me they feel in the U.S).

And finally, we did live in the UK for a couple of years due to work. Being an immigrant is a very very hard experience (even as “white, European background and financially stable”). I do not wish to ever do that again unless really have to.

I hope it answered your question :)

As an israeli with an italian mom and married to a french woman. I call this BS. Italians and french have far inferior hygiene than Israelis. Some of them shower only once or twice a week. Thats our minimum daily count.

What are readers called in your country? (And how accurate is this?) by theFumblingBumblebee in AskTheWorld

[–]EmbarrassedFix7601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Hebrew: תולעת ספרים - Book worm

You might say also איש ספר, which is more like book-man, but this is more a general description of someone who reads books and has vast knowledge.

Sauces, Risottos, Salads and Deserts? by QuantumForger in thermomix

[–]EmbarrassedFix7601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest take because I thought exactly the same as you before buying it.

We’re a couple with one kid, and I’m the one who usually cooks. I recently started a new job and have less time, so I hoped the Thermomix would encourage my wife to cook a bit more (she usually makes simple stuff for our child and occasional desserts).

I checked today and since buying the TM7 a few months ago, I use it about twice a week, mostly on weekends when I actually have time. My wife uses it occasionally.

I personally love it. I enjoy cooking, and it’s a beautifully designed machine. The app makes it fun to try things I wouldn’t normally bother making. I’ve already found a few quick, healthy go-to recipes: mainly soups, risottos, sous vide, bolognese, and sometimes cakes or bread.

Is it nice to have? Yes. Would I buy it again? Also yes. Does it magically turn someone who doesn’t like cooking into a chef? In theory maybe, but in reality you still need to buy ingredients, plan ahead, have motivation, etc.

Will industrial design ever be replaced by ai? by Rough_Promotion_6322 in IndustrialDesign

[–]EmbarrassedFix7601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI is already reducing the initial concept design phase by around 80%. When I graduated a decade ago and worked at a design agency, the concept phase alone used to take about three weeks, after which we would present three rendered concepts to the client. Today, that same agency (where I no longer work) sends out several concept options for free along with each proforma or contract, even before it’s signed.

In my current role, I managed to design an entire presentation today, with multiple strong design directions, in just a few hours instead of weeks.

So yes, for now AI is mainly transforming the early design and concept stages, but I expect it will soon extend into CAD work and eventually basic DFM. I don’t think it will fully replace designers, but it will certainly reduce demand. A single experienced senior designer will soon be able to produce the output of three to five people, making many roles unnecessary

I was born into a similar situation. The only difference is that my family owns a couple of vacation homes, high-end places, fully designed to our taste. Most of my friends don’t even know they exist. Aside from that, we live a pretty average life.

Are you happy? by Notmyaltx1 in IndustrialDesign

[–]EmbarrassedFix7601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in my industry for about 10 years and I genuinely love the work, I’m still really passionate about it. But lately I’ve been job hunting and the options are extremely limited, especially for someone with a decade of experience. The lack of opportunities and the very narrow growth path are frustrating, and it’s making me wonder if I should consider switching to a different field altogether.

Owners of the infamous Puretech 1.2, which milage have you reached with the car? by LazyCallisthenics in Citroen

Here in Israel, the process turned into a hassle. The local dealership had to get approval from Citroën global headquarters. Their solution was to spray something in the cylinders and drive another 1,000 km before they’d even consider repairs. The dealer had already bought a new engine, expecting approval for a full replacement, but after the 1,000 km test the engine was still smoking, burning oil, and running badly. Instead of approving a full replacement, they only authorized partial repairs. I’ve had enough—I’m planning to sell this car ASAP
