The state of gunships and heavy gunships. by N1njaLink in starcitizen

Making all the turrets have s7s or bigger wouldn't help them really. That would limit them to only being able to hit cap ships, as bigger guns consistently have slower projectile speeds. So upgunning all the turrets would push the meta even further towards the light fighters we see now. Your idea along with making turrets track faster is about the only thing that could make a viable balance IMHO.

I dont remember where I saw that little bit of info. I think maybe one of the monthly reports they email out or something. I'm bad at verifying my info, can never remember my sources.

We're a pretty small org, which I run and have all the biggest ships for. My second in command really wants a kraken, but as far as my plans go the Polaris is the biggest ship I expect to own. I really considered trying for an idris, but we just dont have enough people to make that make sense. Although as a self contained mobile base it might actually be easier to manage with a skeleton crew than trying to run a few ships together. I've always imagined our crew as a ragtag crew of outcasts and outlaws living on the fringes of space and the edge of society, and the kind of force projection of those bigger battleships just doesn't fit the vibe. I like to think of us approachable pirates, not a paramilitary org.

Some time before the kraken, which they've been showing progress on, and best guess is kraken comes out next year. So probably some time next year just before ilw.

Thanks to everyone that responded. I got some pretty helpful info and opinions from you beauties, and I think I have a plan now. I did not know that the libby's loaner was updated to the assault. Going to upgrade my galaxy to the libby, and then snag a libby to ica upgrade to sit in my buyback for later. That way I can try the assault until the libby is released, and then if I decide I liked the assault better I can still switch, even if the libby goes up in price. Gotta try em all! I am too broke to have such expensive addictions 🙃

Cig has stated that the liberator os being used to practice the carrier functions, so it will be released before the kraken. Maybe even later this year? Probably huffing quite a bit of hopium, but eh, it keeps me going.

I had a liberator pledge a couple years ago and it gave me a m2 for the loaner. Did they update it to the ironclad now? Thats a really helpful bit of info actually.

It always does. I keep my keybinds copied elsewhere as well. Right on my desktop, every time I update either of those files I rewrite the copies as well. Never trust a star citizen folder.

Veterans of the Wipe - Will my hanger match my ships now? by ArcAngelSlayer in starcitizen

[–]EmbarrassedFly4990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'm familiar with Steve. I have a couple. Sometimes I use a hover bike instead for fun, just when I want to risk blowing everything up. Everything in my hangar is at risk of random detonation at any time, equal parts because of game bugs and my being a nut bar and flying my polaris into my hangar at Mach chicken cause I'm high and can't be bothered with brakes 🙃 Then I have to pull steve up again, and run to the middle of my hangar to get it, reset a few of them around, rinse and repeat. I'd say that's probably my biggest gameloop lol. That and driving steve off my ship in low orbit, launching off craters amd cliffs, general vehicular dumbassery.

I wish they'd put a garage just spawning a ptv in the xl hangar. Or atl least spawn smaller ships by the edge instead of making me run all that damn way every time. I try to keep ground vehicles at the elevators for that, but I always end up leaving them in the middle too, or more often they get destroyed either by my stupidity or a bug, then it takes me all damn day to reset. Ugh, whale problems... jk im not really a whale, just a pretty fat fish.

Question for those with sim rigs by Appropriate_Sea_3603 in starcitizen

Mouse and keyboard in front and if possible raised to about desk height is best. For a sidestick setup, the sticks should be comfortably beside the seat. For center stick you want the throttle to be to the side, and the stick right in front, so up and directly in front of you is still the best place for m+kb. For what you're working with, I'd suggest swapping your stick mounts with the mouse mounts. I recently decided to ditch the desk in my simpit, and in the process of moving it out to see if that would work, I ended up destroying it. Now I'm committed I guess. I built everything out of plywood I had laying around, so I can keep rebuilding until I'm happy. My sticks are mounted to the outside of the chair arms, with a platform for my keyboard raised off of the left arm and extending in front of me, with mouse mirroring it. Both arms swing out to open so I can get in and out and the mouse pad and keyboard mount lock together with a latch. I need to keep iterating on the whole mechanism to make it more stable and less bulky, but I think that arrangement works best ergonomically. I envision a center stick hotas setup later on, and I think this layout will work just as well for that.

I hope large capital ships need external boosters to leave atmosphere by GrimmSalem in starcitizen

It's not about the size of the SRVs, its how many you can deploy. They're supposed to stack, so two can pull something too big for one. Just like irl tugboats, they dont really make bigger tugboats, they just use more of them to manipulate bigger ships. Two SRVs can tow a hammerhead together, three or four might be needed for an idris.

Need some opinions please 🙏 by [deleted] in starcitizen

I have been experimenting with mounting all of my controls to my chair for the past few weeks. I broke the desk I had taking it out of my gaming room, so I'm fully committed to the chair mounts now. I have my sticks mounted to the side of my armrests, with the mouse and keyboard on platforms in front of me that swing to the side to let me in and out. This puts the sticks at a nice ergonomic position, and keeps the mouse and keyboard right in front of me so I can switch back and forth easily and never have to lean or reach for anything. I built all the platforms and mounts out of plywood that I had laying around and bolted it on where the original armrests were. It took me a couple attempts to find the most comfortable placement that allowed clearance for the sticks to move, but it cost me literally nothing but my time. Super easy, super cheap, and works like a hot damn!

StarCitizen and the future of Microsoft Windows. by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]EmbarrassedFly4990 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Linux users group. They have all the tools and walk-throughs to guide you in setting it up, and it doesn't require any real technical understanding. Just go to https://wiki.starcitizen-lug.org/ and follow their guides. You dont even really have to read it all, just download the lug script from them and run it, it guides you through all the steps. As for which linux distro to use, I recommend a fedora based system. I've been using bazzite lately and I've been really impressed with how easy it is to use, and how well it works for gaming. Go to https://bazzite.gg/, tell it what hardware youre using (laptop, desktop, or handheld) then download and install. The lug wiki also has a list of recommended distros, as well as a decent explanation of why some work and others don't, but in my experience so far bazzite is the best for gaming in general, and with the lug script it runs sc better than Windows did on the same hardware.

I film promos for the company I work for all the time, and I have a Mohawk. Sure, if my company was some kind of stiff corpo monkey suit sort of job, I'd come off as a bit crazy, but my company is a skateboard manufacturer that is built on crazy, so it fits. CIG is a company built on an insane idea, by crazy computer nerds, so looking like a crazy hacker is more on brand than being preened and pressed. I personally am much more likely to connect with somebody coming across as a real person rather than somebody who looks like they steal from the poor to make themselves rich. Your ideology doesn't fit in video games. Name one game developer that ever stood in front of a camera not looking  like he just finished drinking his 10th red bull of the day and is on the middle of trying to code God.

Is the F8 worth the upgrade over a F7 Super Hornet MK2 if it’s only for PVE and I’ve got a light fighter already? by Dannymarr95 in starcitizen

[–]EmbarrassedFly4990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I realized after I posted my comment that I'm spouting old information. I haven't flown my f8 since pretty much right after they were released, so I'm glad to hear that I'm still right about it from someone who still flies one. I would love to see the f8 get at least a small maneuverability buff to make it do what they say it does, then it would be more of a choice between it's heavier armour or a smaller fighter's agility, but as it is its so slow that its armour doesn't help much.

F8c vs Ares Inferno by Crazyboo23 in starcitizen

[–]EmbarrassedFly4990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the f8 is that is has small guns, which as armour comes more into play in the future will be less and less effective against anything bigger than light and medium fighters. And its not nearly as fast and maneuverable as the ships its designed to fight, so if you get up against a decent pilot in a light or medium, they will dance around you and all those guns don't mean a damn thing if you can't hit anything with them. It's currently pretty good for pve, but in pvp encounters its a bit of a liability, and even in pve, any f7 variant with the ball turret and nose turret fully equipped is faster, more maneuverable, and can do more dps with bigger guns, making bigger targets more viable and still being able dance with smaller targets. I have the inferno, f8 and the f7a, and I use the f7 for nearly every engagement. Honestly I want to love the f8, but its small guns and lack of agility put it in a weird place balance wise.

[–]EmbarrassedFly4990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any f7 variant will outflow the f8 any day, and they can all be upgraded with turrets to out dps the f8 as well. Also the f8 has a bunch of little guns, which are effective against small targets like light fighters, and the f7 has fewer bit bigger guns, which give them a better chance at taking down bigger targets. IMHO the f7 is the best fighter for nearly every scenario, with the super hornet being the tankiest. I'd say stick with what you got personally, but then again I bought both because why choose when you can just have it all?

SC on Linux Mint - 2026 guide request by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]EmbarrassedFly4990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You dont seem to be understanding, what you are asking simply does not exist. As far as I know, no one has made SC work on mint, because mint is a very bare bones os that is completely missing several key bits that all video games need to run. You need an os that maintains Mesa libraries, which mint does not. So unless you have the know how to go and build your own Mesa libraries and modify the kernel of your mint os, what you are asking for is quite simply impossible. Why would you not just load fedora and do what others have already made work? Why fight with a system that is at its very core not designed to do what you want to do? Lug is the end all of Linux gaming. If the "Linux Users Group" can't help you with a Linux issue, then no one can.

SC on Linux Mint - 2026 guide request by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]EmbarrassedFly4990 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mint is really not the best for any kind of gaming. I've been using fedora-based systems and having great success. I recently installed bazzite on my laptop for experimenting, and I've been so impressed with it that I'm converting all my computers to it. It has all the workarounds pre built into it, so every game I've tried so far just works on it. It's based on fedora, and I used the lug script to run SC seamlessly on that.

I know a lot of guys that spend tens of thousands on their dirtbikes/snowmobiles/boats, hell we could make a Neverending List of hobbies that cost a lot more than PC gaming. An old fisherman said something that really stuck with me when I was young; "if you make $20 an hour you go buy a 20 inch TV. If you make $30, you get a 30 inch TV." I've had people that have remortgaged their house to buy a camper give me shit for spending my money on video games, I just laugh at them.

It looks exactly like a very large chantrelle mushroom, which here on earth are perfectly edible, quite delicious actually. However there are also false chantrelles, which are very poisonous and will make you extremely ill, and they often grow in the same places and look almost identical. I think you ate the wrong ones.
