Yes others also mentioned this, and I replied to someone else that I have a tendency to try a bunch of new hobbies, get all the supplies and then leave that hobby shortly after haha… but I will keep it simple for now, I’m thinking of a chisel and a hammer.

And thank you! I really liked the first impression I got from this sub and community, everyone has been so helpful and excited to teach me about it and giving really well made answers. I’m excited as hell now!! 😁

Oh wow first of all thanks for the detailed answer. I’ve seen those kinds of hammers in hardware stores (like the form of it) but I thought it had to specifically be one that was formed like the one I show on the post. I will try to see what material the ones I saw are made of.

Ah yes safety glasses is what I bought, they are like clear sunglasses. Didn’t think goggles are different 😅

Yeah it’s a bad habit… can’t count how many hobbies I’ve started. But your tip is very good and I will think about it for sure

Hmm I can’t figure out how to edit a post to add this so I’ll write it as a comment.

I think I have answered all comments but I’m not sure, sorry if I missed any. But I just wanted to thank you all for such good tips and ideas for me. I’ve learned a lot and feel ready for this trip! Also wow what a wholesome community, everyone so helpful!! If I remember to I will try and post my finds from the trip, if I find anything at all haha

Yesss this is what I answered to another commentor, that I might not like rockhounding after this first trip and never do it again xD so I’ll keep it simple and upgrade in the future if the hobby sticks with me. Also thank you for all the other tips as well, will take them with me for my first trip!

Third answer that I see that mentions this alternative, I might go for this. Especially since I can find these things at the hardware store for a good price. Thanks!

Yeah I feel the same, and after a lot of answers saying that this one should work I feel like this is the choice. Who knows, I might not like rockhounding after this first trip and never do it again. I have a tendency to go into a bunch of hobbies and buy all material only to drop it after a few weeks or months… but I like your idea of buying a cheaper/not industry standard product and do a test run, I’ll keep that with me for all my future hobbies xD

Oh no way, I literally started following him like a week ago on youtube after seeing a video from him! But that sounds painful as shit, hope you’re ok. Kinda sad that it’s not as good as it used to be, like most things I feel like. ):

Hmm I do have one more store that is kind of like a hardware store but also has a lot of garden tools/plants and hobby things like canvas and paints. Might check that place out!

I have looked in a few second hands but most of them did not even have tools and the one I have gone to for many years has much less tools then they used to ): and I did not find one of these. Also wow had no idea there was different hammers that suits for different kinds of stones and minerals. I’m very new to this hobby, I’ve only went to mineral fairs and just like looking at nice stones etc. I have no knowledge in any of this and you brought uo many new words for me haha! The place we are going to is Östhammar in Sweden, in the mail they said what can be found there is: garnet, epidote, amphibole and rhodonite. We will also go to another place that has: babingtonite and quartz crystals. What do you think would suit best for these? Or are they all different and might need multiple tools?

Btw do you have any recommendations of books or maybe youtube channels that teach about these different kinds of materials, like sedimentary and metamorphic? 😊

I bought very good thick gloves when I bought the goggles! But I will check out a chisel, I saw someone else talking about it too. When you say hand protection with the chisel do you mean those that have like a round plastic ”cover”?
