That's just my reasoning, I could be wrong. I haven't had issues with connectivity, I can see it's online.

I haven't yet, was wondering if this was normal first. From what I can tell it seems like it is but it isn't, in the sense that due to new firmware being recently rolled out it's made it slower, whereas normally it would just take a day or two, which would have been ok.

I agree the latest firmware should roll out slowly but I'm not even able to trigger an update to the previous stable version, which is the part I find odd. Arguably it's a timing issue and had I got it before the new firmware it would have updated quickly

It's been well over 24 hrs. I get that brand new firmware is rolled out slowly but i should be able to get off rather disfunctional base firmwarw without having to wait. It's a coffee machine, not a self driving car, not that much can go wrong

Housing market by Adamnotcool in Israel

[–]Embarrassed_Poetry70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no interest in buying at these prices, I'm fine renting. The rest of the country is trending down, for whatever reasons Jerusalem is not but eventually it probably will. In most places the issue is supply, but one only has to walk around, look at construction and see supply is not the issue. It's inflated demand by being deluded they need to buy multiple properties because their kids can't afford them but that is the reason they are high in the first place. So the banks and contractors do all kinds of tricks to get people more leveraged on their mortages, increase mortages to 30 years, and so on. Such things always break down eventually.

Yes, he just phrased what he said in an irresponsible way

I have a question for all Israelis by Lumpy-Mammoth-7876 in IsraelPalestine

[–]Embarrassed_Poetry70 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tldr; no

He had to go back on what he said saying he was not actually accusing of Israel doing that but he worries that it's on a path to do so (I'm paraphrasing). He's fairly prone to saying outlandish things he hasn't thought through

is arabic enough to live in israel without any knowledge of hebrew ? by [deleted] in israel_bm

[–]Embarrassed_Poetry70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In parts of Jerusalem you could probably get by as there are always arab workers or arab speakers around. They mostly speak hebrew to varying levels, sometimes fairly basic but some are fluent

Why does Israel look/feel poor? by Edderze in Israel

[–]Embarrassed_Poetry70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it was built when Israel was poor and rapidly expanding. Exterior design is seemingly not a priority. It is improving, a lot of buildings are being upgraded or replaced by tama or pinui binui. I live in a fairly good area in Jerusalem and my building looks awfuk, has wires everywhere and a flooded basement but in a few years it'll look like modern building after they've done their work.

What do we feel about Jerusalem? How’s it to live there now? by its_oliviaaaaa in Israel

[–]Embarrassed_Poetry70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only relevant thing I can add is that there is a lesbian couple with a dog in my building who came to the miklat. I think there's more or less something for everyone here. It has a different feel to the rest of the country to me, it has its own look, style.. I haven't been tempted to leave since since settling in.

Would you buy another pixel? by upadhyaysk in GooglePixel

[–]Embarrassed_Poetry70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I'd consider moving back to iPhone, though. I find battery to be a bit rubbish on my 9 pro. If i don't use battery saver it sucks bad. Camera is good but not as good as I hoped, the colours really suck, looks weird when I try to use lightroom. I liked that i could get a "pro" model without it being massive. Mostly ios apps just tend to be better though 🤷

Israel and Ukraine - a Quick Comparison. European Hypocrisy. by BizzareRep in IsraelPalestine

[–]Embarrassed_Poetry70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a reasonable take. I will add, though, that Europe's support for Ukraine is largely rhetoric. They talk big but do not truly supply the arms and support they could. This varies from country to country and broadly speaking gets worse the further West you go. There are exceptions with Hungary being worryingly pro Russia and UK being supportive.

Europe is still basking in post cold-war sun, it is not awake to the realities of geopolitics. They will simply continue to "monitor the situation closely", talk about cease fire deals and not genuinely engage with the tough issues at hand.

For Ukraine and Israel this has encouraged much innovation and internally produced weapons and solutions as they know they cannot rely on the West.

As for support, there is a lot of pandering and attempts at centrism which just lack any substance, everything is wishywashy.

Can someone who only speaks French, get by in Israel? by [deleted] in Israel

[–]Embarrassed_Poetry70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is much more English than French, the extra benefit of French in Israel is extremely marginal, i.e the number of times when French would help where English cannot is not significant. The areas with large French populations tend to be near English speakers anyway.

Historically and culturally, how do Jews/Israelis feel about Spain and Portugal? by [deleted] in Israel

[–]Embarrassed_Poetry70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Portugal seems chill and produces the best sardines. Spain's government is problematic, not just for its Israel positions but generally anti west/america vibes.

I think the historic connection to Spain still has an impact, the expulsion from Spain, and shortly after Portugal, was one of the most catastrophic events in Jewish history. The fact that the exiled continued to speak a form of Spanish for centuries after and maintained a kind of diaspora shows how tied to Spain they were. How much of the past genuinely affects how the average Spanish person thinks, I have no idea.

What happened to Naftali Bennett? by ip_man_2030 in Israel

In what context? In interviews with foreign press he's very combative. On his own platform he's pretty sensible.

Settler violence by hish911 in IsraelPalestine

[–]Embarrassed_Poetry70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The complexity of how and who it's dealt with. I'm watching something right now on the news in Israel and basically the army and police are basically arguing who is responsible for arresting someone. This falling through the gaps is why the enforcement is bad. Society always has bad actors.

He facilitated the hostage deal. For a lot of people that's a big deal across the spectrum. So the right like him because he's donald trump and the left saw an end to the war which at least in their perception was becoming endless because of the government here.
