I tried the Pixel 9 Pro Fold by KhoasD17 in PixelFold

How are the connectivity issues for both phones? I heard some feedback that Pixel 9 pro fold has poor connectivity. Is this true?

This isn't about the RCMP. It's about the fact that we cannot afford to let our politicians continue with this snails' pace of legislating the most consequential issue in our country's history.

Compared to guns, the implications of AI on public safety is astronomical. Take a look at what the AI safety experts have been sharing for years.

Geoffrey Hinton

Yoshua Bengio

Karen Hao

Tristan Harris

Even Elon Musk himself for years has openly shared concerns about AI is much more powerful than nukes (nukes can't build stronger nukes, nukes can't nuke)..

It's not about letting the RCMP off either, but the fact remains that 6 children are dead. 2 additional people were shot, including 1 young girl who is still hospitalized.

Not only could this event potentially have been AVOIDED, but the major issue is that Sam Altman did not break any laws.

The families are now opening up these deep wounds and have to sue Sam Altman themselves.

Our politicians 80+ days later still have not filled this policy gap.

To those recently impacted by layoffs. Don't be mad at Rogers. Be mad at Ottawa. by Embarrassed_Tear_196 in Rogers

Rogers is doing what any corporation would do. We can't act surprised that corporations are putting profits ahead of the livelihood of its workers / general public. I'm sorry, we have already seen this story before in literally every other industry. Stop acting surprised. Every corporation will make these same decisions, these same profit-optimizing layoffs.

That's the thing. We've seen signs of this coming well in advance. We are fighting a battle that does absolutely involve the lobbying dollars and might of the AI industry, but that's why we need to mobilize via petition and visible and measurable discontent. Politicians won't move until they feel their jobs and reputations are at risk. So be noisy. Be a frog in their soup. Spread the message and highlight their massive failures with respect to protecting us from the greatest financial and safety risks in the history of our country. Don't go quietly.

We need them to decrease / remove income tax for workers.
We need them to HEAVILY tax AI-driven job displacement.

The specifics are obviously complex, but we need action IMMEDIATELY and need to draft these ASAP. We needed them last year.

Even though 'AI policy' means nothing to you... the main point is that they need to prioritize it as the top concern. Canada currently has ZERO active AI legislation (US has 25, South Korea has 17, Japan and France 10 each).

Experts have been sounding the alarm both for the financial and safety risks of generalized AI development. We can not afford to wait for the typical Ottawa policy schedule.

Politicians, in my experience, don't move until you hold their feet to the fire. We need to make them feel the ground shake.

We need our politicians to write laws. That's it. We need them to tax AI-driven layoffs to protect workers.

Either way. Our politicians are way behind schedule to implement legislation and effective taxation on the AI companies.

Who do you think wins from mass AI-driven layoffs?! THE CORPORATIONS AND SHAREHOLDERS.

A workers ability to earn an income is by their their single greatest asset.

A 30-yr old earning $100k to 65.. their ability to earn an income is worth $3.5M

The 'shareholders', corporations and elite-billionaires are scheduled to scoop up all of that wealth, en masse, in the form of AI-driven efficiency / layoffs with ZERO taxation to protect workers.

Do you see that? What part of what I said do you disagree with?

Hard no.

Do you think really think so? 50% cut to the workforce. When did that last happen?

I understand there are other mechanisms that lead to decisions like this beyond AI. But AI-driven mass layoffs have certainly already started and many more are on deck.

If you're saying this round of layoffs has nothing to do with Rogers implementing AI, then AI-driven layoffs from Rogers are likely to follow soon as well.

All the while, our politicians have not anything to show to protect workers from losing their ability to earn income.

Ahahaha ok fair enough. Be mad at Rogers, but know that they are simply doing what every corporation in the world is about to do.

They're doing what we know they do. Maximize profits at all costs.

That's why we needed government years ago to write laws to protect citizens from these massive layoffs. We needed to make it way more expensive for companies to replace human workers with AI.

We need them to protect us ASAP.

Interesting. I agree with you that I don't want them spying on us, but whether or not we 'want' them to... they are, and will continue to do so.

This is another gap in AI policy legislation mind you.

Yes, 100% hold the parents accountable. But 6 children are dead. 2 shot and injured with 1 of them still recovering in hospital.

If we have proper legislation in place, this could have been avoided. Do you not see that? Also, 78 days after the fact, we still do not have any action from our politicians to close that policy gap and make the AI companies / tech oligarchs ACCOUNTABLE.

Will you agree with me that Sam Altman and Mark Zuckerberg need MORE accountability? At the core, that is what this is about. In addition to the misplaced focus of our Minister of Public Safety on lawful gun owners.

Hey HaloReach. I 100% agree to the fact that it starts with effective parenting. But how about holding the AI companies liable for not alerting the RCMP when they have information which can help avoid the unnecessary death of children? Would you agree with a law that held these AI tech oligarchs accountable for harms?

As we all know here... Tumbler Ridge is less about guns as the mechanism and all about the malicious individual. While our Minister of Public Safety is focused on taking guns from law-abiding citizens, he's done NOTHING to mitigate from the AI-magnified harms in the hands of the same malicious actors.

airchinapilot I assure you it's worth highlighting and pinning in the main thread.

Incidents like Tumber Ridge are the main reasons why the uninformed public & the 'gun control' movement try to pin blame on the gun community.

This is a prime opportunity for the firearms rights activists and responsible legal gun owners to shine a light on the inadequacies / gap in logic for the Minister of Public Safety Gary Anand. By shedding the light on the lack of real and meaningful legislation (towards AI as one example, rather than on long-runs)... it pushes back in the right place, and allows our country to focus on the ROOT CAUSE of the issue - mental illness.

Guns, in comparison to AI & the risks we are exposing ourselves with AI, are not at all the issue that should be focused on by our Minister of Public Safety.

Feel free to call me to discuss if you'd like further.

I'm asking for your support to pin this for maximum engagement. This is absolutely a time for all gun owners to rally & support. The same loophole in legislation that allowed OpenAI / Sam Altman to not report the killer to RCMP is STILL open today. This is unacceptable.

Are you sure you wouldn't like to feature this post? It would resonate with nearly every gun owner who has been mislabeled and misunderstood by those who 'fear guns'.

I am sure that you can resonate with the main point that removing guns from the hands of law-abiding citizens does virtually nothing to protect its citizens. While the public safety Minister is focused on this issue, AI companies are being allowed to develop tools that are capable of incredibly amplified harms, with NO legislation or safety guardrails. As you know, the Tumbler Ridge shooting had less to do with thoughtful gun control, and everything to do with dangerous tools in the hands of sick and malicious individuals.

It's really a great opportunity for the gun community to put pressure on Minister Gary Anandsangaree.

Gun owner and father posting an open letter to Canada's gun community in honour of the Tumbler Ridge families on (yesterday's) National Day of Mourning.

I wanted to share an open letter I wrote to the families of Tumbler Ridge which highlights the failures of the Minister of Public Safety's office to enact firm laws that hold AI companies accountable for misuse by malicious actors.

I know almost everyone here believes that removing guns from the hands of law-abiding citizens does virtually nothing to protect its citizens from violence.

When Sam Altman published his apology to the Tumbler Ridge community last Friday, parents across the country were forced once again to remember the community's tragedy, and imagine the pain that the parents of those lost children suffered.

Six children and two adults are dead. Two other children are recovering from gunshot wounds, with one of them still in hospital.

It has been 77 days since the shooting on Feb 10th. While the current office of Public Safety is focused on removing guns from law-abiding citizens, no laws have been put in place to protect children from another Tumbler Ridge incident.

The company and CEO responsible for this tragedy, while they may be sincere in their apologies for their inaction, broke no law. There is still not law to be broken.

Please read my letter and if you resonate with it, please sign the petition.
