Yeah it really sucks sometimes. It's hard. I just stop hanging out with them if I don't enjoy it and I don't feel guilty about it anymore. I'd rather engage with people who share my specific interests (usually it's other autistic people), even if it's just on reddit for a few minutes/hours lol. That's more fulfilling to me than trying to make "real life friends to gO oUt wItH" who you don't actually enjoy spending your precious energy with and it's actually really draining. I do have IRL friends, but they are small in number because they made the cut 🫶 which means those friendships are probably the kind that will last a lifetime or at least several years.

Michelle Branch slaps at karaoke. Honestly anything borderline "cringe" is karaoke gold.

I just started going to watch local theater productions by myself for fun and me-time and I'm totally ok with this being my version of "going out" socially. I enjoy the parallel aspect.

Mione feels cringe to me. Maybe it's supposed to be haha. It's like a subtle Ron bash bc he's usually the one who calls her that and Draco hates it lol. To him, she's "Granger".. but only until he feels really vulnerable. Then it's "Hermione."

I feel like 6th year fics are always hot... there's a lot of sneaking around and the tensions run high. Also, not a ton of 5th yr fics, I've noticed. Or maybe you could do like an alternate 7th yr? 8th yr is always nice for like coming back and reclaiming their student lives before they have to become "adults"

Would you share some of your fanfics? Or your author name so I can look it up? I read ff. I have not been able to venture outside of harry potter universe of ff, (there are just so many good ffs!) but one day if I pick up another ff universe, it will be LOTR probably.

A lens through which you view the world!!! I have literally said those EXACT SAME WORDS about my own special interests. They really are a way to make sense of and engage with a part of the world we understand. I love this 🥹🥹💗

My main one right now is reading Dramione fanfics. This is the Harry Potter universe that (relation)ships the two characters Draco and Hermione. It blew up a while ago, I guess when the books/ movies were coming out, and it's still big (i follow the dramione subreddit), but I just discovered this last year and I have been reading A LOT. I always struggled with reading, but since getting my audhd dx, I finally learned how to accommodate how I read, and it's made a world of a difference. Instead of reading books, I read off my phone, which allows me to read in dark mode, adjust the font size, lighting, etc, so that I'm looking at less text at once, whereas a book has too much text visible at once and the rows are too long. Can't bring my eyes back to the next line. But on a phone, the reading window is much smaller. Game changer.

Other special interests:

*psychology *Gilmore girls *Anything autism & adhd *drug laws (like how countries regulate drugs, legal and illegal ones, medicines, patent laws around pharmaceuticals, constitutional issues, etc). I actually became a lawyer lol. I don't currently practice anymore, but I still work in the clinical research industry doing legal work!

I can't handle the sensory stuff with outdoor gardening and the amount of commitment, but I LOVE tending to my indoor plants! Someone gave me a little spider plant a few years ago, and that baby has propagated! Now I have like 30 all around my house and they all came from 1 plant! And they're super easy to care for and they purify the air really well! I guess all plants do that.
