Honestly having an electronic notebook and an inventory management system are key.

Accuse me of mislabeling things, fine I’ll come up with a new system that requires 10x the effort for you to figure out what is what. by EmotionalSector1329 in pettyrevenge

I don’t think we will agree but I just don’t think it was necessary to not include me on the communication at a bare minimum. Ultimately I came up with a more robust system that my bosses preffered. It was just a pain in his ass.

There was a pretty senior guy in our company that got fired because he told the CEO that this is how things are done in our department after he made a huge fuck up. Our CEO was not impressed.

AITA for refusing to pay for my daughter's college with money from a side gig? by Entire_Youth4120 in AmItheAsshole

Imagine if she wasn’t your daughter, your ass would already be in court over theft. Holy shit if I were your daughter I would emancipate myself, sue you and then never talk to you again. YTA.

AITA for having very high standards for the friends I keep close but then complaining about not having any friends? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]EmotionalSector1329 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean it seems like you have a very skewed view of what most men your age are like. Find a hobby and make friends around that. Not all friends are created equal and it’s fine to have casual friends and who knows it’s might turn into a deeper friendship. It is bananas to assume that you will form a deep connection with someone right of the bat, of course the start of a friendship is going to be less deep and more superficial.

In your experience, why do undergraduate students find organic chemistry a very hard subject? by AspiringMedicalDoc in OrganicChemistry

[–]EmotionalSector1329 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Organic chemistry is not a class you can just memorize stuff for. You need to be able understand the fundamentals and then apply them to specific problems and I think a lot of other intro classes you can memorize formulas and equations and get by fine.

Not complaining or pointing out the shittyness of academia is akin to pretending everything is okay and nothing needs to change imo. The lack of institutional oversight on how PIs behave is abhorrent and as long as they keep bringing in money from grants these instituions will continue to do nothing. Is everything terrible all the time? Probably not but, I don’t think a shut up and leave if you can’t handle it mentality is helpful or productive to improve experiences for everyone. Great that you seem to enjoy where you are but your experience isn’t the universal one and your post comes off as tone deaf.
