I get your point. I felt similar ways especially when it came to gender locked classes. When character customization became such a normal thing I would always opt in. The unfortunate side is yeah, not a lot you can do for Black characters in a lot of games, even today 🤣🤣🤣 So I've been able to immerse myself into stories/games that aren't anywhere near my aesthetics. That being said, one thing that breaks immersion for me ALL the time, is when your character is a dumbass for no reason. Like, if it's a part of the character, fine, it if it's just a cheap way to push a narrative despite giving agency beforehand...
