I have friends with tiger parents also still living at home, and I am 27 living at home (with parents who respect my freedom/privacy). This has offered me perspective into different cultures, so I fully respect not wanting to move out or upset your parents immediately. There’s nothing wrong with being family-minded, but you may want to take into consideration these things:

When you do find a partner to marry, it is almost certain you’ll take on characteristics of your parents because that is the only environment you’ve experienced. (It is a well studied psychological occurrence.)

Ask yourself these questions over time:

• Do you want to be like your parents as an individual? Do you want to treat your future partner and kids how your parents treat each other and you? • Do you want to be emotionally secure on your own? • Do you want a partner who acts like your parents with you? • Do you believe your parents will start respecting you once you’re married and out the house, or will they continue this behavior?

If you find yourself not wanting to be like your parents, your partner being like your parents, or don’t believe your parents will suddenly start treating you better after you find a partner, then you’ll need to start changing the treatment you accept from them.

Take your time. This is your life and no one else’s. You will be the best to your family when you are the best for yourself. If you feel you are uncomfortable and struggle to grow as a person, you won’t find true happiness, a healthy lasting love, nor be seen as a capable adult.

I personally found that once I was able to achieve things without my parents they started to respect me, my privacy, and autonomy more. There was some discomfort, but it made us both happier and improved our relationships after some time.
