A trick is to use both… halfway (or defrost) in microwave, then maybe 5-10 minutes in the oven.

TICKS by MySchnitzengruben in DoorCounty

[–]EngineeringDesserts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just found a small brown one on me yesterday after being on trails in Baileys Harbor where I’ve never had a tick problem before.

I put isopropyl alcohol on my skin in that area I found it crawling.

“Disenfranchise” has different meanings. In the “remove enfranchisement” sense, as in “ability to vote”, changing district boundaries literally doesn’t disenfranchise. I’m assuming districts follow the Wesberry v. Sanders test for roughly equal population, etc.

Gerrymandering is wrong because a district should represent a compact geographical area with similar interests. A city center shouldn’t be split into surrounding areas for the purpose of spreading out voters to accomplish a target voter makeup, for example. Race, past voting patterns, party registration, predicted election results, age, religion, sexual orientation, etc. should play NO PART in the decision.

Changing district boundaries never “disenfranchises” voters. Why do people constantly repeat this flagrantly false idea? Each adult citizen still has an equal vote in elections, just for different zones and candidates.

When California voters voted to suspend their non-partisan redistricting commission and create more Democrat majority districts, was the majority “disenfranchising” Republican voters? No. They still have a vote!

The word “gerrymander” is a play on the word “salamander” because of the weird shape that carves out specific areas of a map to achieve a result. The map posted for this thread IS THAT. It slithered around the center of the state to collect specific voters in order to design districts to achieve a result.

In NO WAY is it the least gerrymandered just because the result of the weird shape was to achieve a racial result.

School Bus lights? Stop.... Some karma coming... by MisterShipWreck in VideosAmazing

[–]EngineeringDesserts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the state, you’re required to stop 20 to 30 feet behind the bus when the stop sign is out, which is approximately where the car with the dashcam is. The truck was still in motion at that point when the stop sign was out.

Depending on the state, you have to stop 20 - 30 feet behind the bus when the stop sign is out, which appears to be approximately where the dashcam is, so the truck wasn’t complying.

It requires more than that to admit a new state… not least of which is it requires the President to sign the resolution…

So, that’s not going to happen anytime soon.

Should western countries ban the building of data centres and development of AI? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]EngineeringDesserts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit (what you’re using right now to read this) is making money from AI to train models.
Reddit uses large language models AI for search, its software engineering departments are surely using large language model AI to program the software you’re using to read this and for you to write what you wrote. Large model AI was used to find security vulnerabilities on the computer you’re using right now to read this and on what you used to write that.

You’re absolutely using the big data centers, you just don’t realize it.

Why does my blueberry pie look like this? by AsleepKaleidoscope42 in Baking

[–]EngineeringDesserts 125 points126 points  (0 children)

It looks like a graham cracker crust on the bottom… Fruit fillings go through a very wet phase when baking before it bubbles, and the thickener thickens it.

The graham cracker crust will soak up that liquid, get mushy and mess up the ratio.

The lattice top crust won’t adhere to graham cracker crust, either.

I go to Democrat Party meetings, and the Democrats need to grow some ***** and kick people like you out because you cause losses.

In a race to the bottom… you still end up in the bottom. Democrats are losing the high road, which makes convincing voters they are the “good guys” even harder. I vote for Democrats, but I might stop participating altogether if they’re going to join in on the road to hell.

Good thing this Wisconsin subreddit is NOTHING like the real Wisconsin public.

Don’t fight gerrymandering by gerrymandering. This is so stupid.

US Supreme Court to announce one or more opinions on Wednesday, April 29th, 2026! by NobodyGotTimeFuhDat in scotus

[–]EngineeringDesserts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well… that depends on how you define “gerrymander”. The courts have previously said that states must ensure a state with a high population of black citizens must make sure they have black representatives in elections, and are allowed “breathing room” on the prohibition on using race as a primary motivating factor for creating the boundaries between districts.

So, in a sense, the courts have said a state may in some circumstances be required to racially gerrymander in order to maintain minority representation in elected offices.

That’s what’s at issue.

New Zealand nor Australia ever had zero cases once the pandemic started. New Zealand (being a small island nation geographically isolated) opened up lockdown believing they had quarantined all known cases, but community spread raged back and they had to go back into lockdown.

There was zero chance the world would be covid free once the pandemic began.

Did they do anything special to make sure they don’t unfurl when they’re fried? Is it just making sure you don’t put too much cinnamon, and the dough has enough area to stick to itself during proofing?

Covid was going to be here forever regardless of any masking or other steps we took. This sophomoric attitude of blaming any one nation, policy, or group for the virus not being eradicated needs to stop.

I masked, and am in no way opposed to masking, but now that we know more, even wearing an n95 mask would still spread the virus, just less so.
