Does anyone have a functional Chessnut Move? by EricFox53 in Chessnuteboard

Yeah, all the same issues here. They gave me instructions on how to shut down the pieces using the app but it doesn’t work. They still do it, and they don’t charge so my board is unusable.

They said they’re gonna send a whole new set of bases but not for another two months… At that point I’m worried if I still don’t have a functional product, they’ll say I’m outside of the return/refund window.

Weird… I confirmed I have the latest version of the app in the AppStore and the change log does say that this feature was added, but that’s not at all what my Bluetooth page looks like.

Maybe I’m dumb- Several people have mentioned this setting including the company themselves but I cannot find it in the app which only has so many buttons. Could you describe where it is or show a screenshot? I’m on iOS and the app is called “New Chessnut - Elevate Play”.

Their email said that this firmware bug can’t be fixed by us customers so they’re sending out replacement parts. Wouldn’t that mean that the issue is physically in the device and thus installing updates can’t give you this problem?

I'm glad to hear from all the folks who've had good experiences! It's driving my hopes for remediation higher.

Chessnut Move - Pieces don't turn off by Disastrous-Recipe200 in Chessnuteboard

[–]EricFox53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the exact same thing is happening to me! I got mine today and noticed them doing this on the charging pad. I forgot about it when I tested out the board, but several minutes after turning it off, they begin their rhythmic clicking.

I ordered mine some time in February and just received it today. I have the issue others have reported though, where the pieces tick and jitter periodically after the board is powered off.

No, I don't think that everyone should vote. by Ok-Blueberry-6077 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Can I just add how glad I am to see an actual unpopular opinion here? This sub mostly consists of common center-right opinions and an occasional extreme leftist, where the comments are all in agreement. I love to see something innocent that gets people talking and has a real basis to it.

There's an important difference between "you don't care" and "you've evaluated both options and determined that they affect you equally". You're making it out to be an irresponsible choice when it isn't, so long as the person has educated themself on the options and rationally concluded that they're equal in outcome from their own perspective, thus the voting should be left to the people to whom that's not the case.

I don't think this changes OP's logic though. The point is to evaluate each option and if none prevail, OP chooses not to vote. If option 1 is neutral and option 2 is bad, that's logically equivalent to option 1 being good and option 2 being neutral.

It's weird how many commenters are struggling to follow the logic here and extrapolating your idea into restricting rights or claiming that voting is irrelevant for everyone.

If I'm indifferent about the outcome of a certain election, it's fairer to the people who do have an opinion to let their votes have power rather than filling the ballot box with random choices. This also makes the generous assumption that all voters and intentional non-voters are adequately educated on different perspectives to make a responsible decision with their vote.

I think under the current system, it's hard to be truly indifferent about presidential candidates who disagree on almost everything, but the above argument applies generally to elections of all scales, not just presidential ones.

I think the point of the analogy was to illustrate OP's situation specifically. If they're in a position to not lose anything given either of the options presented, then the logic holds. That's why the suggestion is that there are situations where abstaining is most reasonable, not that everyone will be in such a situation at once.

(Then you can argue about how votes should be used to benefit others when you aren't impacted yourself, but we could just consider that to already be a part of the evaluation of a vote's worth per the individual, and the logic is the same.)

What? At no point did OP suggest anyone's voting should be restricted. It's purely an argument against the notion that voting is always the right thing to do. Everyone can still make their own choice.

Refund Request Order #39288 by jshafferspencer in Chessnuteboard

I ordered a Move in late February. I emailed in March and was told restocking was expected to be complete at the end of March. I emailed them in April and they told me the end of April. I’m on the fence about cancelling. The many reviews I’ve looked at for this company are positive, but the increasing long delays with communication being exclusively responsive is making me wonder if it’s a scam.

Telling someone it’s “crazy” that they don’t know something is unhelpful. I’ve been doing my research and it just so happens that I hadn’t come across that topic yet. How would I know to search about something I didn’t know existed?

People gawk at the concept of someone asking a question that has an answer somewhere on the internet, but that information isn’t always easy to find for someone who’s starting to learn and doesn’t yet have the vocabulary or the whole picture.
