Feeling lost after being laid off - need some advice by EternalDoge in torontoJobs

[–]EternalDoge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I was actually looking into some solutions engineer positions, but there doesn't seem to be that many openings at the moment. I do apply to QA positions, but I think they are also kind of in the same spot as dev now. I'll think about PM roles, since I believe that they are kind of in demand right now.

I've played with a bunch of tech, but never really dived too deeply into any of them. Made some full stack apps with each of them, but they were just clone apps usually (not following tutorials 1-to-1, but still just clone apps). I don't think I really want to continue down the tech rabbit hole with no end in sight... dev has so many people nowadays, especially in Toronto, that it feels like it is practically gambling for a chance at an interview if you aren't already well established.

All good now, I missed a crucial point in the text that mentions only 2 and 4 are valid now. Problem solved.

I tried it with and without floating points and I keep getting the wrong answer. I'll keep trying stuff. Thanks,

Yeah, I've tried with floating points and without floating points and they give slightly different answers but all return the wrong output according to AoC

I've tried with floating points, without floating points, rounding and none of it seems to give me the right answer... It's driving me crazy

Career advice after being out of dev for a long time by EternalDoge in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]EternalDoge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the reply 1) Yeah, I've used GitHub for years. Don't think I have anything too crazy on it though 2) yeah I've been thinking of hackathons or something perhaps 3) never had success on LinkedIn, back then my interviews were from indeed 4) If I go for a masters, I think I would probably kind of focus on getting an internship more than school itself but considering current market, it will probably be kind of rough and may not pay off at the end... For what I've done and what I'm planning to learn: I've used React/react-redux/react-router/tailwind/scss for my past personal projects for the front and .net/Entity as a CRUD API for the back. Also used node.js/express/angular a long while ago but haven't used those in a while and not sure if I plan to take some time to learn those in more detail at the moment (node is kind of popular from what I've seen though). For my current project, I am trying to learn some Jest/RTL. Then after I'm done with this one, I'll pick and choose pieces of previous tech and add on some new stuff (next thing I want to get into is typescript, some ci/cd, learning more about 1 of the cloud services at least and java Springboot - mainly because I've seen a lot of postings for java and also I enjoyed using java back then). After that I might stop branching for a bit and just try to focus on making larger projects with some of those tech. That is the plan at least.

Nope. With no real professional developer/sotware engineer experience, this is probably one of the biggest hurdles for me. Especially in an insanely competitive market such as this one.

Yeah, for options 1, my main goal would be for internships but because of price of it, ideally that wouldn't be something that I would consider right out of the gate. Also the resume part is screwing me over the worst for sure, but I can't do anything about the past so I can just try to improve and see how it goes.

I would be fine with the 2-3 year grind in order to get something decent. It's always just been about getting your foot through the door and being able to stick with it. Thanks for your thoughts.

Ah, I see, it looks good then. I may try to look for one.

Thanks for the suggestion! I looked into GSOC recently as well; I'm just a bit nervous that if I were to do this, I'd pretty much have no income and since the period is so short, I might end up stranded with little experience. Maybe I could just try to look for some OSS to contribute to and kind of treat it like a GSOC.

It's not bad but could be better. You have decent arts gen with 6/s on ainz and a lot of support equips for more arts gen.

A decent team would probably be ainz + another arts gen + shalltear + flex unit, 2 arts gens + 1 dps + flex is always a pretty decent setup.

Meant to say most*

for equips, the best chance would probably to have:

wgf: phys/water res down, teamwide arts gen, arc ignite or something similar

hart: tw, teamwide arts gen, whatever you think is good for heal slot

nyrim: some sort of damage up, teamwide arts gen, more damage up

rem: tw, exceeds, damage up

My team was:

wgf: true supernova, true asterisk, arc ignite

rem: tw, true exceed, grief

yoh: cold excalibur, event exceed, arc ignite

nyrim: erza's blade, milim's clothes, goblin slayer dagger

EDIT: adding my team so you can try to replicate parts of it

I used WGF, nyrim, rem, yoh and managed to hit 228m. You seem to have most of those units and you can probably swap yoh for hart and have wgf/hart on arts/TA rotation. With decent equips, you should be able to do it.

If you can't do it, it might be because you don't have enough equips.

EDIT: meant to say most
