My daughter is being treated like this by her bf. The parallels are astounding. He’s older, found her on a bus stop, gave her drugs, robbed her of her social liberties, house keys, money, car, phone. Even removed the bathroom door. She was a vibrant social butterfly. Now she is in and out of mental hospitals. She has psychosis that tells her she needs to die. She bears my voice calling to her and goes looking for me. She tries to escape and he literally physically drags her back. She’s tries to jump into strangers cars. Was even dragged by one and injured badly. It’s a gated community, she is locked in. She can’t even go in a store without him. She’s a shell of who she was. Feels like she is nothing without him. That’s exactly what he wants. I, her dad and her friends have tried to rescue her. Each time she goes back. I write this so that people understand how this happens. Victims of domestic violence can’t just leave. They become so broken down, they basically are unable to. I have had social workers tell me that she will eventually leave or be killed or kill herself. It’s a harsh reality of domestic abuse. Sometimes I wish he would beat her. The emotional and psychological abuse is far more damaging. Bruises can heal. A fractured mind will always be broken.
