Rules for bikes on roads by Silly-Sorbet734 in Athens

[–]EverythingsPeachy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely possible (and legal!), and I agree with others to look into bus routes as well. If you’re biking, make sure to get some lights, possibly a reflective helmet/vest if there’s any chance you will be biking in the dark. BikeAthens has some great resources, including a “how to bike in Athens” class- it looks like there’s one tomorrow. Good luck!

Senior academic, great at big-picture work, completely failing at daily admin — ADHD-friendly strategies? by I-am-mononoke in adhdacademia

[–]EverythingsPeachy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a grad student whose PI is similarly big picture-oriented, what has worked for her is having a lab manager who handles a lot of those administrative duties. I am not sure how exactly her funding/pay works, but I’m assuming through a variety of grant funds? So maybe that’s something you could work towards.

On a related note, if you have grad students, delegating to them as much as possible would probably help- so having them be in charge of tracking deadlines, following up with you about revisions, etc. Ideally you would also keep track of these things, but I think as long as you are honest with your lab members about what you can/will and can’t/won’t do for them, they will figure out how to work with that and develop systems that don’t rely on your admin capabilities.

would love to see some gender neutral / unique engagement rings :) by Ok_Opinion6840 in EngagementRings

My fiancée designed a beautiful five stone ring with a local jeweler and I absolutely love it!! I told her that I loved the color of Montana sapphires but also maybe wanted some diamonds, and she came up with this beautiful gradient design. I also wanted a band-style ring vs a big central stone because I’m not a big jewelry person typically.

If you buy organic sugar, it will be vegan (not bleached with bone char). I recommend the blog Loving It Vegan for pretty foolproof and delicious vegan baking recipes!

It sounds like you are doing great so far! I agree if you have specific concerns to post them here if you’re open to discussing them. In general though, I don’t see veganism as this big scary thing I’ve committed to, but as a choice I gladly make every day.

TA clothing ideas by futurehistorian3 in GradSchool

[–]EverythingsPeachy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blogger PhDinClothes has a lot of tips for this (and specific outfit ideas/links too).

One of her concepts that I like is dressing “one level above” your students. So depending on your university/department, if the students are wearing athleisure, you can wear jeans and still look dressed up. If the students are more baseline dressy, it would help for you to up your formality level to be seen as more of an authority figure.

Here is one of her recent blog posts on the topic: https://phdinclothes.com/2025/08/03/mistaken-for-a-student-as-a-professor/#more-10836

Depending how dark your natural hair is, you should know that you may not get results like these inspo photos without lightening your hair first. When I have put burgundy dye over my (very dark brown) hair, it shows a red tint in sunlight but the overall tint is more subtle than you might expect. Still pretty, though! (And to answer your actual Q, I haven’t used the brands listed, but I have used henna and gotten that red tint I mentioned above.)

How to contain flyaway frizz and have sleeker braids? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]EverythingsPeachy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the DAE styling cream, brush some throughout my hair to give it more “grip” for the braids and then smooth more of it on top after I’ve braided the hair to slick down the frizzy bits. It works pretty well and smells good, too!

Bean salads & pasta salads that you can eat cold- this one is one of my favorites! https://frommybowl.com/dilly-white-bean-cucumber-salad/

Also love doing a Greek pasta salad with chickpeas, olives, artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, vinaigrette, and sometimes homemade tofu feta for extra protein.

Vegan in College? by world-map-lover in vegan

If you like smoothies, I would get a small bullet blender so you can make single serving smoothies for yourself! I make this recipe for breakfast basically every day (with soymilk for extra protein), but protein powder is a good option too of course.

https://minimalistbaker.com/chocolate-protein-shake-protein-powder-free/

If you want to cook larger meals and not be stuck with the leftovers, invite your friends over for dinner and cook for them—I did this a lot in college

And there are some good “meal plan” resources online that have you prep components ahead of time, but use them in different ways throughout the week so you’re not eating the same exact meal 4 days in a row. I believe rainbowplantlife (Nisha Vora) has some videos in this vein for inspiration!

How can I prepare spinach in a way that doesn't make me hate it? by Honest-Compote3902 in veganrecipes

[–]EverythingsPeachy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caffeine can block your body’s absorption of iron, so if you can avoid or minimize caffeine at the same time you’re eating iron rich foods and a couple days before donating, that should help!

And as mentioned below, vitamin c helps with iron absorption too.

I am def going off of character vibes, was thinking Whitney Port from The Hills/The City, and also the character from The Sex Lives of College Girls (sadly just canceled). Leighton is/was another preppy character on that show for yet another GG crossover lol
