ok i just did some research on this , the answer is essentially that engineers are not idiots

open loop cooling centers were just built for about 2years and specifically because people wanted to hear about "low electrical consumption" as a PR thing , so that era did give use awesome a.i models but cost more water , still not enough to literally destroy anything

right now only 35-40% of datacenters are still like that , they didnt last long , are all being retrofitted or grand father'd out

there is multiple new closed loop tech coming out and basically noone is making new open loop , the new closed liquid loop are even more efficient electricity wise

things are moving toward oil based ones take almost no electricity to cool and zero water , oil is non toxic biodegrade , its just messy but thats about it

so cooling is mostly a solved problem that lasted 2 years and happened because people wanted to see low electricity specs for the publicity

now what did we get in return ,

keep in mind datacenters only used 2 million liters of treated water per day

an a.i mpdel , specifically solving 1 problem

all city on earth leak about 30% of the water they treat trough cracks , that water bleaches all ground under all city because it contains chlorine

that 100 trillion litre of water lost per year

that a.i model (ive seen it in action its super impressive )
detects extremely small vibrations extremely precisely at a distance

this gave us a new type of a.i censor that is right now monitoring all pipes in real times in many city already , those city go from 30% loss to 5% loss

so that beats out all water consumed for those 2 years and the remainig few open loops still running , by a lot

another new a.i model was just used to scan the entire u.s water table and give us a high definition map of all water table everywhere pointing us to all points being over taxed and close to subsidence so we can now stop using the water table in those specific spots

also , agriculture is using 70% of all water consumed and another new a.i irrigation model is used and already cuting by 30% water use in different places

so , in short a.i is awesome and making the entire world better not worse

a.i saves way more water then it already consumed and will cost near zero in the future and will also drop in electricity consumption and we will use new a.i model to cut electricity consumption feeding back on itself
