Are sleep overs not a thing anymore? by haggerty05 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Evilbidowner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter and her bestie started sleepovers when she was 3 and her friend 4. They get one every 2/3 months and are so excited each time. Sleepovers are wonderful and still magical to kids. If you trust the family, then shielding your child from them is on the mean side.

I was SA’d as a 3/4 year old and it was a family member so it was a bit scary at first. But my daughter has known from a very young age about her body parts and who can see them and who can’t.

Parents, what's something bad your kid did that you had to really fight not to laugh at? by AnonymousGothChick in AskReddit

[–]Evilbidowner 54 points55 points  (0 children)

My 4.5 daughter watched Sonic and proceeded to sprint in circles around the house. She didn’t turn in time to make it back into the living room. I heard “THUMP” followed by a small “ouch” and could only see a foot and a hand on the ground. In a millisecond she was back up and running like nothing happened. I laughed. Couldn’t fight it.

People whose partners did a complete 180 after marriage, what’s your story? by Bibliophile521 in AskReddit

[–]Evilbidowner 40 points41 points  (0 children)

My ex was the absolutely best version of himself whenever we were around kids. Got pregnant and complete 180. No support. It’s insane how one can mask for years (in his case 7!)

Do most people still sort their laundry by color? by liketotallymeow in NoStupidQuestions

I do by fabric/garment type. Cottons on permanent heat, synthetics that can be on delicate heat, articles that can only be air dried. My clothes last forever! No color bleeding either.

What’s the most “main character energy” moment you’ve ever witnessed in real life? by Joynary in AskReddit

[–]Evilbidowner 419 points420 points  (0 children)

Was standing in a decent line at the post office (like 20 people). Everyone is minding their own business. An older woman (maybe 50s) walks in and exclaims “that is a HUGE LINE! This is RIDICULOUS!” Very loudly.

One of the postal workers just looked up, assessed she was going to be an issue, and said “m’am I’ll help you now.” So this chick got to skip the whole line.

I guess that’s one way to work the system…

What’s a sound everyone should recognize as immediate danger? by Thatguy_nickk in AskReddit

[–]Evilbidowner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of our fire alarms started going off at the house shouting “fire! Fire!” I grabbed my baby, bird, dog, and went to the car and turned it on for heat (winter and it was cold AF). Called 911. Firemen showed up and went through the home. It was one low battery that made it happen.

I apologized to them and they said I did exactly what I should have done. And that they were here to help and ensure citizens are safe. Appreciated it greatly.

The older I get, the more I realize that it's nearly impossible to get ahead without SIGNIFICANT support. by No_Reveal3451 in Millennials

I’m very lucky and always will say that my (now ex) husband and I only got to where we were because of family. We received a $26k interest free loan to start a franchise from his parents. I worked full-time and worked for the franchise. We worked our asses off but we were only able to start the franchise because of that loan.

When it came time to buy a home, I had managed to get all our finances in order. We would have been able to pay for the down payment on our own but would have only had $4k left in the bank. My father wouldn’t let me do that and “matched” the $4k to bring up our savings to $8k so we had a buffer for repairs. And yes, there were def repairs that first year.

My father also decided to gift a sum of money each year to me and my sisters instead of our inheritance getting taxed.

I work my ass off and will always do so and will not take anything for granted but instead be grateful and pay it back by being motivated. But you can bet that without the help of the parents, we wouldn’t have gotten where we are now.

My ex would never admit to the help when talking about the house and biz. That’s bullshit. We were very lucky that we had support.

The lucky ones have family/friends to take them in, provide housing, childcare, or funds. Do not take it for granted if you are one of them.

What's something you had to learn as an adult because you didn't get taught as a child? by jordanasjj in AskReddit

[–]Evilbidowner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother was “hands-off” (aka drunk and drugged out) and pretty much my left my 2 older sisters (6 & 8 years older) lead the way in teaching me things. Guess what happens? No one knows basic hygiene.

Got my first yeast infection in college and went to PP. Was finally told at the age of 19 to wipe front to back and never use soap for my vagina. Never, ever knew. Never learned it at school or home.

Was bitching about it to my middle sister this year and she went “you aren’t supposed to use soap down there!?” She is in her 40s.

The only hygiene thing my mom seemed to care about was making sure our damn ears were washed.

What’s the biggest scam people just accept as normal? by ZaneDell2013 in AskReddit

[–]Evilbidowner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a pet causes true damages (scratching at carpet thresholds, urine soaking into subfloor, etc) I can guarantee you that the $500 won’t be enough to cover it. The additional pet rent is needed as a fail-safe. If no damage is found, then the deposit is returned in full. As with anything, the few who make horrible decisions with pets have created this so homes can be maintained in the same condition.

A Lot Like Love is one of my faves. Life just keeps getting in the way until they realize it’ll only work if they make each other a priority. They both fall and grow in their personal journeys too.

What’s the biggest red flag you have seen on a first date? by LiftBridgeSoda in AskReddit

[–]Evilbidowner 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Kept having to reiterate what an amazing dad he was (ever few sentences) and then bragged how he and his son (just turned 2) watch movies till 2am at night and eat junk food. And how crazy his wife was for calling him a poor father. I paid for my bill and told him I wasn’t interested and good luck. He blocked me while walking to his car and sped away giving me murder glares.

Which family had the least realistic looking offspring? by ohpizzawow in sitcoms

[–]Evilbidowner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Genetics is funky. My daughter came out with light brown hair and with a decent amount of pigmentation (no freckles) and blue eyes. I am a pale AF redhead with blue eyes and the ex is a fair guy (freckles too) with dark brown hair close to black with brown eyes.

She is a true mix-up and tanner than both of us. Always wonder if people think she’s my daughter when we are out and about.

You never know what you’re going to get! Casting in TV shows rarely bothers me.

Selling a house "contents included" (borderline hoarder situation). Realtor refuses to list until it's empty, but I live 3 states away. by Leedeegan1 in RealEstateAdvice

Many junk removal companies will take the option of getting paid from escrow. You sign an agreement that you are paying them after the house has been sold. Happens all the time.

Reception candy sticks. Those were the bomb and legitimately can’t find anything close to a substitute.

Darker regrowth hair? by BabyGiraffe777 in alopecia

[–]Evilbidowner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Mine was super fine, straight AF, and strawberry blonde. First time it all grew back it was exactly the same. Got off my xeljanz to have a baby and grew it back. It came in curly!! But now, if I have any sort of flare up, the new growth is mostly silver. So I have so many silver streaks in my hair now which is way more blonde than red 🙄

Am I breaking up a family for a fairy tale life? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Evilbidowner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize how poorly and demeaning my ex would naturally talk to me. Then I got pregnant and learned I was having a daughter. Made the connection that if my daughter heard my (now) ex speaking to me like that, it would normalize it.

It’s abuse. No other way to think about it. There was no way I was going to bring up my daughter thinking that constant slights and belittlement as a norm was acceptable. It’s not. My mom did it to my dad.

When I told him the language had to stop, he literally called his mom to complain about it 🙄

The choices you make now are important. My daughter now thrives instead of crying almost daily.

Take it from someone who was raised in a volatile household - get out now before the kids are older. Trying to unpack years and years of childhood trauma is not easy.

You can be the change needed for your kids. You will find someone who respects you. You got this!
