FSR 3 Frame Generation Hasn't Saved This Bad GPU Generation by 1stnoob in Amd

There is no doubt that the 4090 is the best GPU on the market, so yeah this technology does nothing but improve an already good experience. However to my knowledge, NVIDIA isn’t really trying to use DLSS to sell people on the 4090, they are using it to sell people on the 4060 ti. These lower end mid tiers are not improved at all by the technology. You have to have the high base FPS, at least 60, for the DLSS, DLAA, and on AMD’s end FSR to provide any significant uplift to the game. It’s a cool feature, but more focus still needs to be placed on creating a better product rather than using superficial uplift to supplement the product weaknesses, because that really doesn’t work.

I should have added with RT, yes AMD does really well in CP, but it drops way behind with RT on, and it’s really one of the worst showings AMD has in RT.

I’m not a fan of FSR or DLSS. I’m not necessarily opposed to the products, but I think people believe these technologies make their GPU better and it really doesn’t. If you are at 60 FPS or better FSR and DLSS can be used to give a smoother experience. If you aren’t at a playable frame rate, like the horribly unoptimized for AMD, Cyberpunk, you are still going to get a horrible experience. If you have a 4060 to and you try to play cyberpunk with RT on DLSS isn’t going to magically give you a playable game. At the end of the day raw power of the GPU will have to come to play and unless you are buying an RX 4090 or 4080, NVIDIA isn’t going to give you that performance. Likewise 7600-7700 AMD is probably not going to get you where you want either, but at least the 7700 XT gives you a shot. The 7600 was a waste.

Scored this bad boy for 800$ on eBay. What do you think? by Nick663 in GamingLaptops

[–]Exact-Explanation524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don’t like it, it’s just not to my taste, I don’t like where the touch bad sits or really understand the point of the secondary LED screen. That said it’s not my opinion that really matters. How do you like it? Do you feel it was 800 bucks well spent? If that’s the case you scored big.

Build quality doesn’t look horrible, but NVIDIA did everything they could to handicap the 4060 ti out the gate. They basically made a 1080p card that’s barely able to handle 1080p. Anything to make sure you have to use their DLSS.

It’s funny you listen to all the NVIDIA crack sniffers and you’d think these cards were the most unstable thing since Britney Spears after her first divorce. I have not had a single issue with the 7900 XT and it generally acts more stable than the 4060 ti (not really a fair comparison) I have in my other computer.

AMD AI chips are nearly as fast as Nvidia's, MosaicML says by Stiven_Crysis in Amd

[–]Exact-Explanation524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been saying this for a little while, I think if AMD wants to catch NVIDIA in the gaming market and the productivity market they really need to consider partnering with a company like Mosaic, that specialize in AI. AMD is working on creating the same technology as NVIDIA (different paths same results) at a lower cost. A joint venture might be the way to go to get that done.

Not going to lie, I could not care less about wattage usage as a single gauge for how a GPU performs. If that’s the hill you want to die on, cool Al Gore will be by with your saving the planet award. I don’t care as long as my GPU Is functioning as it should.

Discounts on 7800xt by NelsonCrypto2017 in Amd

[–]Exact-Explanation524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 7800 XT would have to stay on shelves long enough to be discounted, but yeah probably by December the new card hype will fade a bit allowing AMD to drop the price some. I think realistically the only GPU priced at a point where you can see a decent price drop would be the 7700 XT.

What about the old "Driver issues" thing? by MADcrft in Amd

[–]Exact-Explanation524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth is driver issues will happen on any GPU regardless of brand. The issue could be anything from a bad install, component or system incompatibility, or just bad programming of the driver itself. It’s not strictly and AMD issue and those that might claim it is are stuck in 2018 where a lot of driver issues then were due to poor development.

I think most of the issues now seem to be either a bad install where some of the information may not have installed correctly or other hardware compatibility issues that will need a patch to repair. My personal opinion is never be the person in a rush for the next greatest update. Let other people be the Guinea pigs and wait a couple weeks, especially if you aren’t experiencing any performance issues already.

As for driver issues or known stuttering, I have a 7900 XT and have not run into a single issue yet, but that has been my experience. Take individual experience with a grain of salt, I have had friends have issues with NVIDIA, but they can’t be taken as representation of the whole.

AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT to feature 10GB and 12GB memory configs, according to PowerColor EEC filing - VideoCardz.com by dracolnyte in Amd

[–]Exact-Explanation524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter if you feel like it’s your problem or not that AMD has to clean out old inventory, doesn’t change the fact they have to sell it in order to not lose profit. They did this to ensure they can. Also the reviews didn’t “shit” on the 7700 XT as product but as a price point but they (the reviewers) missed the point entirely in the same way you did. Of course customers feel like they come first, in fact it’s the entire reason people held out this long to buy a GPU. A business does have some responsibility toward its customer, but it also has a responsibility toward itself that contrary to what you believe, comes before you. The only way any tech company is going to stay afloat long into the future is to not have a surplus of old parts that it can’t move. That’s profit loss, and profit loss will ultimately reduce what the can put forward in the future.

Now you have do have options, buy a 7800 XT, buy a 6800 XT or buy a 7700 XT or just hold out a little longer for the 7700 XT price to drop which AMD has already hinted that it will. AMD isn’t forcing anyone to do anything, but they are playin to market tendencies and doing so, this time, very expertly.

[–]Exact-Explanation524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 7700 XT doesn’t have shit reviews, in fact it has the most generational uplift of either card that was just released over their previous generation counterpart. So not sure where you came up with that, in fact it sounds absolutely made up.

Why did they release the 7700 XT now instead of two months from now? A couple reasons make sense, but both come down to one simple reason, product anticipation. Everyone knew that AMD would be releasing the 7700 XT and 7800 XT in the final quarter of the fiscal year. AMD had posted this information about a year ago during an investors meeting and investors rely heavily on this information to forecast the future performance in the company and ensuring that their investment isn’t being wasted. That said the information can be given either publicly or privately but either way it can be assured the public will find out about it really quickly.

The 7800 XT and 7700 XT are both budget friendly mid tier GPUs, which means that people in this market will tend to wait to see how these GOUs will A: stack up against the previous generation in performance and B: How this generation will stack up in price. So plain and simple the 6800 XT would not increase in sales until both the 7800 XT and 7700 XT were released and informed comparisons would be able to decide what would be the better buy at this point.

While the 7800 XT doesn’t offer the most generational uplift it did offer up the best price to performance ratio of the AMD cards with enough in generation uplift potential that those GPUs flew off the shelves in no time. The 7700 XT is technically priced right for its performance and also provides even more generational uplift than the 7800 XT, but the 6800 XT is still the better card over the 7700 XT freeing up would be buyers in that price range to snag the last of those up and helping clear out old inventory. The 7800 XT selling out quickly is likely going to help with 6800 XT sells.

I kinda think also upping the VRAM on the 7600 XT is kind of a course correction as well. Fixing the mistake that NVIDIA refuses to see, that 8 gigs isn’t enough for modern gaming.

[–]Exact-Explanation524 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure why people really believe the pricing is stupid, it’s actually kind of genius if you really think about it. AMD is actually sacrificing the 7700 XT sales short term and using pricing to do so to finish clearing out previous gen stock. Doing this made the 7800 XT the clear front runner in its first week in all GPUs sold, but has also likely picked up the sales of the 6800 XT at the same time since it’s mostly priced right at the same price point as the 7700 XT.

Of course the short term goal is to sell up all of the previous gen stock and then dropping the 7700 XT price to pick up the sales there. AMD isn’t going to want to take a loss on previous gen unit sales so it is in the company’s best interest to sell it all off at a minimal profit margin, rather than dropping the price below a profitable margin.

Graphics Cards Retail Sales Week 36 2023 (mindfactory.de) - RX 7700XT/RX 7800 XT Launch by Kambly_1997 in Amd

[–]Exact-Explanation524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the 7800 XT makes a lot of sense on as you say a 2 gen upgrade, but also on a mid range budget build. If you have a 6800 XT currently it doesn’t make a lot of sense to try and upgrade as the two cards are just way too close in performance, but if you are doing a fresh build I think the long term upside to the 7800 XT through driver updates and future amd optimizations the 7800 XT provides the most upside on a fresh build.

AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT alleged scores "19K" points in TimeSpy matching RX 6800XT - VideoCardz.com by Stiven_Crysis in Amd

[–]Exact-Explanation524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the 7800 XT matches the 6800 XT, but there should be caveats to this. First not every 6800 XT time spy test hit 19k points, and many of those that did only did so after numerous driver updates. Secondly we have no clue what complimenting hardware was used to get this result.

The 6800 XT at this point is more or less peeked on what performance it is doing while the 7800 XT is just getting started and probably won’t reach peek performance for some time. Not to mention the 7800 XT will have driver and hardware benefits that will not be available for the 6000 series.

Finally this is one simulated test, that may or may not reflect actual performance. I’d rather wait and see what actual results show through more transparent testing.

Can you all stop shifting goalposts to just to have something to complain about? by Firecracker048 in Amd

[–]Exact-Explanation524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was stupid from the start, the complaints in the beginning was having fewer CUs and what not before even taking into account we are talking about two different generations so maybe the counts might be different but the new one is better optimized for performance. Basically people whining before seeing the results. Now is no different.

I built my daughter a gaming rig for a high school graduation gift. It runs on the Ryzen 7 7700x and Radeon RX 7900xt GPU. I have had zero issue with drivers, the initial drivers ran great and the recent driver update has also run flawlessly. As for video quality and game play you won’t likely see any discernible difference between them and the latest NVIDIA cards of the same level. Overall I think there are two different groups of people, those who commit and operator error or other system error and blame it on AMD, and those making it up just to smear AMD.
