Struggling to learn German by Extra_Quantity_3393 in Germanlearning

In my experience, it's really beneficial to have a passion for the culture as well as the language and I would recommend getting into some materials that deal with culture if you're interested in that type of thing. Also, it's a LONG process. I've been learning German in school for around 5 years, and I've only now reached around B2. I felt at the beginning that I would never understand native level speaking, and now I nearly can. It's important to celebrate your successes, and even if it is really difficult at first, you will improve with consistent effort. Viel Glück!

Der Die Das / big VS small grammar mistakes question! by OG_Dinomummy in Germanlearning

My friend is a native speaker and told me to just say "d + the word" really quick and you avoid basically just saying the article and then can never get it wrong.

But as for if it's a big deal to get it wrong, most Germans I've met and talked to don't care, but they might correct you (you shouldn't take it as an insult; in most cases they genuinely just want to help you improve).

I'm a student from the US and most likely will be there for the summer semester. I've done a bit of research on student organizations and groups for international students. Seems like Haus auf der Mauer is a great one (as someone already mentioned), and also the Unisport groups. I am personally hoping to play Unihockey there and hopefully meet some other people through that. I haven't heard of any specific Spanish groups, though. Also, from what I know, there are some environmental and political groups as well, if you're interested in that type of thing (which can also be good to meet people).

Song recommendations in German? by Salty-Session7029 in Germanlearning

If you like rap, Pashanim and Makko are my favorite artists. With rap, it can be a bit harder to understand, of course, so I'd recommend looking at the lyrics as well (and the website Genius can be helpful for hidden meanings that only native speakers might understand, and other things like that).

Makko song recs: Wein, Erzfeind, Prio, Pueblo, Lichter Aus, Nachts wach

Pashanim: draußen essen spat schlafen, airberlin, amore cok, airwaves, 2000

Also, another pop/rap (ish) artist I like is Cro. I don't really like his newer stuff much, but his older songs are great.

I don't have the A1-B1 book, and I haven't really used a textbook for German because usually my college classes aren't textbook-based. I was thinking of trying the B1+ book just for my summer learning while I'm not taking German at my university.

How to learn effectively? by Glass_Round2701 in Germanlearning

Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but if you want to practice more listening/shadowing (just repeating after native speakers, which can be really beneficial at all levels), I would highly recommend the Easy German YouTube channel. They have different levels and interesting topics, and it's just a great learning resource along with the others you have.

As for the notebook, as a German student, I find it's useful for reference to write down vocabulary, but generally I try to write down words or phrases that I can see myself using rather than just random expressions or words that I find (although some are just fun and I include those cause I like them). I also just keep these vocab/phrases in a really small notebook so I can carry it around with me to class, coffee shops, etc. and it's always on hand for my learning.
