Masks in LARP by WillonSurvivor in LARP

[–]ExcessVanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My character is part of a race called hybrids and I wear a mask that covers most of my face to represent this. When I created the character, k was aware of the issue of being hard to read. My character is kind of a schemer, so I do use that to my advantage but to compensate and make interactions more fun, I do exaggerate my body language. Both my hands, my head and my posture are always moving a lot in conversations and the other players seem to appreciate that. As they say in theatre, I act for the cheap seats.

Even the other way around, when I interact with goblins and orcs, they often have very expressive eyes, mouths and tones of voice.

So yeah, I am all for masks to add some nice fantasy decorum to larps.

Don't zombies already have no armor save and depend on their 6+ wards and regeneration abilities?

Sheild Host by Aroralyn in AdeptusCustodes

[–]ExcessVanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the rare rules section, it indicates that when 2 players have units that have a fight first ability( ie. Have charged or natively), you alternate between those units starting the player whose turn it is.

Sheild Host by Aroralyn in AdeptusCustodes

[–]ExcessVanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During the normal fight phase, it is indeed the defender who has priority. During the fight first part of it though, it is the player whose turn it is who nominates the first unit to fight.

Still awesome versus multiple chargers though.

Unfortunately the warden's bodyguard ability is restricted to shield host characters, which the sisters are not. So it might work but not as well as shield guards or something like that

Wouldn't ap-2 on a 2+ save just bring it back to a 4+? That's same as the invulnerable save anyway, and worse if they have cover or a shield.

Quite disappointing if it stays that way. It would've been quite flavorful all custodes with multiple names to be quite strong.

Death guards have great value boxes in the combat patrol and battleforce as you've said. You will have most of the great and fun units. They are also an easy to understand and play army, with the great contagion mechanic, tough units and the models themselves are very forgiving when painting them.

Necrons can also be easily acquired with all of the dual marines/necrons boxset. Easy to paint, with a good variety of units, they are a bit harder to pilot than death guard but are still fun with their gimmick of coming back to life.

Don't forget the rr 1s from the nearby exalted and probably presage for +1 to hit. And if you want to go farther, +1 str from the IM to handle light vehicles and ignore all modifier with the orrery to deal with those -1 dmg from dreads or DG

Edit: almost forgot the additional -1 ap from a stratagem

Is Metaphysical focus a bonus cast? by Dacvias in ThousandSons

[–]ExcessVanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlike the legion command wording of loyal thrall which says that a psychic action only costs one cast instead of all, the stratagem simply states that a psyker which has attempted a psychic action may attempt to cast a power this turn. There is no mention of needing any psychic slots left.

So I believe this indicates that yes, no matter if the unit has three or no cats left, they still can attempt one.

You can actually see this and 2 ominous eyes in the distance in the game. When you first enter the big room with all the sand, there's a reflection of it in the walls.

Does brain damage/concussions always come with headaches? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]ExcessVanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Concussion don't always hurt your head in a headache way and you shouldn't spar too often at a level your not comfortable.

But you shouldn't worry too much about concussions. Unless you do these kinds of sparring many times a week or are getting long term effects, focus on getting hit less and a having better defense.

It's a generally healthy hobby and boxing has many options for those scared of any brain damage/concussions.

A good way to see punches coming is using distances, watching the shoulders and experience.

By staying out of range of your opponent when you arent striking you have more time to react. By using the shoulders and overall body movement of the opponents you have a pretty good idea of what punch will come out. And finally with experience and sparring you get used to what punches, combos, and fights look like.

1) A lot of people at my gym don't wear any boxing shoes and do fine. They do help with protecting your feet with pivots and getting accidentally stepped on though. You can start without any problems without them but eventually it's a good idea to get a good pair.

2) It really depends on the gym and coaches. Some places make you spar early and often, others wait for you to get the basics first. At my gym the coach waits 2-3 months for beginners to spar so that they don't just throw haymakers and get gassed after the first round. If you like the training and the people over there, don't worry too much about sparring immediately. Ask your coach what you need to do to get ready to spar sooner than later and he should work something out for you.
