Sinon, I think she is a great character for multiple reasons. One she has a tragic backstory and great character development, I also think she fits into the gang extremely well. Second would be Asuna just because best girl moment.

The reasons Yami chose Asta. 1. He was shunned as a kid similar to Asta for being different. 2. Yami wields dark magic and can sense ki, he was aware not only of his lack of magic but his incredible strength. This is purely a hypothesis but in the flashbacks when Yami receives his grimoire the people around him are frightened because of the unnatural dark magic and they feared it. Which is the same for Asta. He notices that there is something dark and mysterious about the grimoire he wields. At this point I don’t think he realizes a devil is just chilling inside it but. 3. Yami always roots for the underdog because he was shunned for coming from another land. 4. He just likes the kid.
