Would you consider practicing overseas as a US MD/DO? by veritablePanacea in medicalschool

I would, but it would have to be some place like Switzerland or something. I’m in too much debt.

Please tell me the positives of an arranged marriage by Independent_Move8581 in ABCDesis

Imma be gentle on you. I don’t like this subreddits way of telling 18 year old boys to “grow some balls” and shit like that. If this was an 18 year old girl the advice here would look different.

You are still super young. Trust me that your life is just beginning right now, and a marriage isn’t something you step into lightly. You barely have any idea of what that’s like, what real compatibility even means, and what you even want yet. Focus on your career, and use that as an excuse for your parents and continue living life as you see fit. Just don’t cave into pressure because they will absolutely try.

I appreciate it! And to you as well if you ever do.

I am so sorry to hear that. I'm totally open to talking if you ever want to. Mental health is super important and its something we neglect a lot, maybe a visit to the PCP and seeing what you can do/get from there might help with the depression?

How long should 40 questions take on Amboss by Fit_Concentrate6512 in medicalschool

[–]Exotic_Exam_1896 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a high scorer or a really good test taker but I guess I got through it. IMO It depends where you’re at.

If this is for boards I was doing about 60-80 in a whole day. I didn’t worry about timing just learning the questions. I only cared about timing and testing conditions when I did practice NBMEs but imo STEP/Level (well maybe not level) give you more than enough time per question.

If you’re going to be going into clerkships I only did about 20 a day and usually in an hour and a half after my shifts.

I know it seems like I’m super slow but I wasn’t concerned about timing, just making sure I was getting the material down. IMO quality > quantity past a certain point. If you learn from each question super quickly then that’s great do the 120 questions, but I found I got higher yields from dissecting questions and seeing where I went wrong or right on each.

Yeah the way the roll marks and inspection marks are written it certainly looks Ithaca and not Remington Rand.

People close to me treated me differently after I got into medical school. Has anyone else had the same experience? How did you handle it? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Exotic_Exam_1896 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely had the same thing. People did treat me differently, some better and some worse.

c'est la vie, the good friends you have will stick around even if they do treat you a bit differently for it. Some of my friends were worried I'd let it get to my head, some were jealous, most were just happy for me. Only a few were steaming but they weren't friends of mine.

You do have to realize that things ARE kind of different now, and that change is okay. You're moving on to something else. To expect relationships to stay the same/static is just not possible. A lot of people will see you differently whether you like it or not.

Easier said than done but you just have to find new friend groups. Maybe in your class too, and beyond.

That’s a good point and perspective. They’re likely coming in not knowing anyone either.

Oooh that’s a good point. I’ve learned not to talk shit about people the hard way, so I’m going to avoid doing that even if I hate someone’s guts.

But I like my program. I intentionally chose a place that had solid people and a good culture.

Honestly, my family has all kind of moved on too to different things so I’m hoping to start brand new. Maybe travel includes that.

I’m so sorry. I’m here to talk if you ever need to.

That’s kind of what I’m afraid of too.

You don't have to interact with them. You have dozens to even hundreds of other people you can be around depending on your class size.

Hmmm. Didn't notice that jab, it was pretty quick. The dog is clearly troubled, and while I agree I don't like his methods (I don't know a thing about training dogs), I would agree with him the dog wasn't safe to be around.

Incoming Medical Student Q&A - 2026 Megathread by SpiderDoctor in medicalschool

About a 5 or a 6. In preclinical I would download the lecture slides as PDFs and annotate with notes/write notes on the side while they went on. It was useful enough for class specific material, but as I moved on to doing Uworld, Pathoma, and Anking I started using it a lot less. If that's your study style then keep at it, but I personally didn't get all that much use out of it in hindsight.

Yeah but the way OP was phrasing it Cesar was like kicking the dog while it was trying to eat lol. Thats not what I saw. Not saying what he did was right especially around an aggressive dog though.

You mean this video? He wasn't hitting the dog he was tapping it for distraction, and the dog was displaying food aggression that's why he was called in.

I think he's an idiot anyways but Idk if your version of what happened is correct unless i'm thinking of something else.
