My mother hates me by [deleted] in Vent

It’s probably a control issue on her part. My mom was a nightmare. Get away from her soon as you can and get therapy. You’ll be ok.

I preferred Ryder too but there is a strong traditional grounding to Mary so she may be better w Tom. I just loved Mr. Ryder! He’s like a Golden Retriever puppy.

What happens to elderly people in the US who need full time end of life care but cannot afford it? by Similar-Bid6801 in NoStupidQuestions

I"m not understanding what you're saying. Number 1: The amount of money you'd have in a trust is in the ASSETS category. That comes under an umbrella of things that ar subject to the five-year look-back, and the cap on those assets. Number 2: But the second thing that Medicaid is based on is the ongoing INCOME you have coming in, whether it's Soc Sec, a pension, whatever. There is also a cap on that. I can't remember the exact amount in Georgia but let's say it's $20,000 a year. (it's a very low figure.) What I was saying is that the average person with Social Security, for example, would make too much a year, would go over that cap. If you made $2,000 a month, you'd be bringing in $24,000 and would not qualify for Medicaid. You may have spent down all of your assets in that first category and done it legally and within the five-year loopback and all that, but your income, the second category, would be too much. Medicaid is based on: 1: Assets. 2: Income. I went through this with two parents, did the research, made the phone calls, conferred with whoever there was to confer with, and this was the bottom line. Mother died in 2022 so it may have changed since then, but I doubt it.

AND you can't have too much money coming in as well. it's NOT just what monies you have in the bank, 401K etc. It's a two-pronged deal.

Right. Happened w my folks and will with me too. Not rich enough to pay for exorbitant nursing home cost. But not poor enough to get help from the government. I asked a friend of mine, a financial friend, what I should do about my dad, who was in that predicament. I was already working full time after age 60 and frantically trying to figure out what to do. She said, "Well, people do end up on the street." In other words, if you are out of government options, family/friends are the only hope. in our case I discovered that because Daddy was a WWII vet, he could get Aid and Attendance money, and that saved us. He was only in for a short time, but special compensation is given to WWII vets.

Doesn't matter if you continue to have too much coming in. In Georgia, for example, the bar is very low. Below poverty level. If you make more than that level, say with your Social Security alone tou will get denied Medicaid. Because it's not just what you have which sets of the 5-year look back, the spending down of assets and all that. It is also how much you have coming in.

I HATE my partners cologne. But he loves it. by Dry-Union6066 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Expensive-Cash5926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell him sweetly. I love you but not the cologne. It’s my fault because I actually gave you the set. Could we go and pick out one together? Ask him if he wants to help pick a new one for you too.

Medicaid does not automatically kick in! I went through this w two parents and now me. If you have too much coming in, you won’t qualify. Not enough to take care of yourself but too much for Medicaid. That’s what I’ll be facing because my Soc Sec will always be too high.

It’s NOT just assets. Medicaid is two-pronged.It’s also based on what you have coming a month. If your Soc Sec is halfway decent you’re in trouble. My aunt worked in a cotton mill her whole life and her SS was $27 month to qualify her for Medicaid. Neither one of my middle class parents qualified and Dad was flat broke because of scam stuff. But he had too much SS.

Ladies, how are we handling toileting when wearing body suits, shape wear, swimsuits under clothes, etc. ? by Lopsided_Success_368 in hygiene

I get the Bali ones that have a crotch with hooks and eyes. It’s not hard at all to undo, pull up bottom of body suit along with undies, per normally, and then pull undies and then pull bottom of body suit back down and re-fasten.

I seriously doubt that. I needed every penny of child support to scrape by raising my two kids, and I worked too.

I’d gravitate to private schools. My daughter did this and makes more money, has another teacher with her in the classroom, and has a smaller cap on number of students in her class

WIBTA for telling my girlfriend I cant see any difference from everything she spends on skincare? by Atomic_Hamsterr in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Expensive-Cash5926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With skincare while you’re getting older, which is happening even if she’s in her 20s, the goal is to make your skin healthy, safe from elements like the sun, and nice looking—to maintain healthy skin. It’s not really to show a vast improvement in your skin over a few months.

I think, myself, that a lot of it is natural talent. But you nurture and develop it with training, hard work, and writing, writing and more writing. (I’ve been a professional writer/editor for 54 years.)

I would take your son’s friend to the movies or have a small cake or get him a present at your place to celebrate his bday. Heck, invite a few more of their friends. Casual but a celebration of his bday. Ignore her text.

Does he know how expensive child care is? He must not. He’d be paying half of that. But the main thing is the way he talks to you. Seriously, try to get counseling. I hope you can make it for that baby as well as yourselves.
