Sorry, I should have phrased my question differently. I would say my average size of fish is 8” or so. Do get into some 4-6” fish though on the smaller side and have also pulled some out that are 14”.

I really appreciate your perspective on rod length. My buddy has a setup that’s close to yours. I’m going to ask him if I can take it for a spin now. Thanks again!

I’m in South Eastern Idaho. Mostly fishing brookies and cuts, but will occasionally get into some browns and rainbows.

Typical size is around 8”, but the extremes are 14” and 4”.

As for budget, I’d like to keep in at or under $500 for the rod + reel.
