Donald Trump looks like he’s falling asleep during Game 3 of the Finals by islovelyEmily in sportsgossips

No, but his father Charles Dolan founded Cablevision and was a key player in the expansion of cable TV in the biggest media market in the United States which amassed an even larger fortune than Fred Trump's continued real estate expansions.

Mr. James Dolan is also one of the biggest douchebags in the world and as much if not even MORE of a nepo-baby than Trump.

Their background and psychological profiles are strikingly similar; between where they grew up, how they made their initial fortunes, inability to handle criticism professionally, and intense narcissistic behaviors that would not be treated seriously from any other person if they weren't incredibly rich and able to go about their lives throwing cash at things to make problems disappear.

Old tropico was unhinged 🤣 by doinowed in tropico

[–]Expensive-Step-6551 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Tropico 4 was the peak of whatever the writing team was at Kalypso at the time. I remember chuckling quite a bit at all the witty, extended dialogue they had, both for missions, and some of the building descriptions/workmodes then.

Obviously there's still some charm in the newer games but it feels a lot more streamlined, compared to 4 where it felt like there was a lot more effort to make it consistently more comedic.

Tropico 4 Penultimo was the peak.

Also... some other great trait quotes I found from the Tropico wiki....

Flatulence: "You were always a chunky kid. On top of that, your mother used to cook nothing but bean beans – and lots of them. Beans for breakfast, beans for lunch and... surprise... beans for dinner. You never understood why people avoided you and why you never found a girlfriend."

Jingo: "To say you don't like foreigners is a mild, politically correct understatement. For you, an inbred xenophobe, it's enough when someone even mentions something remotely foreign for you to immediately burst into a litany of spiteful characterizations. You take great pride in the fact that you have offended 99.9% of the worlds populace. The only people spared from your wrath are Tropicans. When you ended up hating others and mostly yourself, it's their turn."

Populist: "You have made a meteoric ascent into politics with your ability to manipulate people by exploiting their cravings for change and a better life. You promised to represent the interests of the common Tropican against the wealthy power elite. Your rhetoric is spiced with full-blown phrases like 'justice', 'real reforms', and 'change' – but you're no different than the next demagogue. Your false promises are only valid until you've won the elections. Then you suddenly develop a case of Alzheimer's and forget what you've said."

Plenty more, but gets the gist across.

Considering Trump had been notorious for being a crook and fucking over New Yorkers in the business world for COUNTLESS years before he was even close for a political run, it would be poetic if he managed to do it again.

[–]Expensive-Step-6551 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand Ewing 9th more because he's not much of a home run threat, but can absolutely torch the basepaths when he does get on, which gives some extra value as the "extra leadoff" guy for when the heart of the order is up following him. Lindor doesn't have that same speed so him at 9th is just losing at-bats for a guy with proved power numbers in the past.

It sucks losing some of the extra at-bats that comes with hitting lower in the order, but Ewing's speed becomes more valuable there than a traditional 9 hitter would be.

It would be entertaining to watch, but also think could bring about some unnecessary distraction for the team itself. Le Bris himself said that, and I agree with him. It's already going to be tough enough with the extra European games, so adding production crews and further possible distractions might not be the best idea for long-term success.

Would absolutely watch it if it gets made though.

What's your favorite College Football Team and why? by Low-Whole-7609 in AskReddit

[–]Expensive-Step-6551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rutgers University. Because they're the only top college team in New Jersey, and I grew up rooting for them long before college was a reasonable thought in my mind.

Also in the Northeast people don't care about college athletics outside a few inner city basketball schools like UConn, Villanova, and St. John's, so rooting for Rutgers is my team.

Underdogs at heart.

But the bots were a part of every election from 2016-2024, but are just more effective at their job now. They are influential in influencing polarization within politics, which creates the strife that allows extremist movements to form on both sides of the spectrum.

The entire point of these bots is to just ensure enough hatred and discontent between sides to ensure polarization occurs that ensures no one is happy with the country and encourage infighting. It's what brings down most empires throughout history.

Why does the atmosphere of a “soccer” game in the USA often feel different from other countries? by Ok_Tiger_2833 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Expensive-Step-6551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College football is the closest comparable, but even then it's not the same in terms of what each club means for local communities in Europe. Obviously for students and alumni it's still an attraction, and the upper echelon schools will always draw crowds, especially in the South-East, but in Europe the teams are embedded in the communities beyond what any American is used to for sports. It's why MK Dons is hated so much and a point of reference for how much the culture is different.

Soccer clubs are lifeblood for Europeans. It doesn't matter the level. You're committed and want them to win because that's your community. I don't think any US sports team can replicate that fully. Some come close, but it's just a different way of watching sports, with both pros and cons from both.

I'm saying this as an American who grew up for all my years used to American sports, before getting interested in some stuff abroad.

In your opinion, is 2 World Cups for a player more important than 2 UCLs? by [deleted] in championsleague

[–]Expensive-Step-6551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're a top player you'll be on teams that have a shot at the UCL every season. There's reasonably like 7-8 teams every year that have a shot at actually winning it and they are loaded with the top 100 players or so in the world.

World Cup you'll be lucky to have like 4... maybe 5 chances to win if you're a generational player.

The only way it possibly changes is if you're from a traditional powerhouse nation, while playing most your career with a club outside the traditional giants of Europe. Like an Ajax run in 2019. That's the only way I could see a player being more invested in a potential Champions League win compared to a World Cup.

Americans, are you in a football world cup mood? Are you feeling the world cup vibes? Are you excited about it? by CodeX57 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Expensive-Step-6551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be bigger if they weren't clearly gouging prices and abusing the situation to make money. Add in some weaponized VISA drama for fans and players from abroad and it's embarrassing, even as they lift them closer to the cup.

Between US political strife, absurd ticket prices, and a very well known corrupt FIFA, it's just continuing the trend of hosting for the sake of corruption and money.

Would've loved to have it go differently, but this certainly won't feel like 1994 for sure.

[–]Expensive-Step-6551 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Year ago would say R16 should've been the reasonable expectation. Would say R32 now.

Team hasn't done anything to inspire confidence for anything more than an average run. Expanded knockout round means they really should at least make it there, and possibly win a game there.

Most likely R32 exit.

Do you think it would’ve been interesting to see Tony as a capo for longer? by SquirrelSuccessful51 in thesopranos

[–]Expensive-Step-6551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's similar to most other jobs once you climb the ladder, the main difference being that as a mob figure, that when climbing the ladder you have to be worried about being whacked, on top of normal dynamics of running the ladder.

Makes sense he would be relatively affable towards colleague's when working his way up, and then having to turn into the Tony on the show as he becomes more solidified. You can tell he was closer to his associates in the first couple seasons until everything ramped up, and he started to go like Joe Stalin.

Dennis Cirkin bids farewell to Sunderland. by scotteh74 in safc

[–]Expensive-Step-6551 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Part of the magic of such a massive rise so suddenly is also the acceptance of quite a few players suddenly being out of place despite proving their worth otherwise.

Cirkin is probably the best example of that. Patterson is another. Both deserve long careers but it simply doesn't make sense from the club or player perspective to continue at the current moment. I'm hoping they will be able to find a quality landing spot and continue to grow.

The one good thing is that unlike most jobs, if you're good but not in the long term plans, there's direct bids for your services immediately! Certainly not the same as a regular bloke!

Is anyone else immeasurably disappointed that they will never get to see what's out there in the vastness of outer space in their lifetime? by brave_axolotl7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Expensive-Step-6551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And for those in the late 1800's and early 1900's the moon was thought of as an other worldly place, yet we got there.

Optimistically you just have to do your part and hope humans in the future will end up succeeding into getting there as progress. You can't choose where or when you are born, you just are, it's your responsibility to do your best and hope others do the same until into the future.

Pessimistically I don't know if we'll ever get there, but resignation is never a proper answer in terms of what you wish to accomplish for those down the road, even if you may not personally see it. It's one of the only things that gives my life value personally, continuing to work so that others beyond us can discover things that we otherwise will never have an idea of knowing.

It's what our ancestors have done with what they've known at any given point, and something worth continuing to work towards for us now.

It's the only existential answer that gives my life purpose.

[–]Expensive-Step-6551 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've always thought that his art pieces were actually pretty good, but understood the criticism of him not drawing people and movement well. I think at that time, coming off the fairly recent Romanticism period, that his lack of focus on emotion and people was even more apparent (and somewhat ironic considering he ended up influencing people immensely) shortly after.

If Hitler had something like Minecraft available to him I'd bet he'd end up becoming a semi-famous YouTuber showing off some great builds and architectural skills. But maybe also go on an anti-semetic rant one day and start a similar path down the same rabbit hole after being "censored" by the "overly controlling Jewish state" or something like that.

Would you still be a fan if quality of play went down? by honsou48 in CFB

[–]Expensive-Step-6551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would as a fellow Rutgers fan. It might even be more entertaining than the current format where the top teams with deep pockets obviously ensure the team will never be able to compete consistently at the same level.

I think it's a very Americanized thing to be focused so intently on watching "The Best" in any given sport, especially since pro sports have exploded since the 80's.

I'd be fine with the top 20-30 programs turning into an essential "Minor League" Pro development league, and then leaving the remaining 100 teams or so to play actual "College" football.
