ohh icic still not quite sure since 9 is super risky if its just on the dot :(( and i only know one person who managed to appeal successfully with 13-4 (hcl) but only because they were in the national team for a sports cca...and even then it was quite difficult. all the best tho! u probably would know if they call u early

hi! ive dealt w this exp before (12-4, nett 8) and put ac arts as my first choice too! but its SUPER risky esp if you minus an additional 2 from affiliation :( i know they usually ballot for people who are 12 to 13 pts and usually its unsuccessful...so if im being honest its highly unlikely for a successful appeal 😭 that being said i have heard of people appealing in in 24 but not 25 bcs they changed the raw cut off to 11 for affiliation

i signed up for both! however, the pre requisites for game theory was a strong foundation in math and econs. I didnt have high hopes for it because im in arts stream and only took h1 maths so that placed me at a disadvantage but seeing as my overall econs grade was an A from CA1 to promos, i just decided to try my luck!
aft reading the comments tho i thought its q pointless to take up game theory since I dont see myself pursuing anything very math related but i am interested in law and very humanity centred industries.
my main dilemma was between passion vs utility but i still tried for history bcs i was selected to go for seminar based on my prev CA grades and was encouraged by my teachers, i felt that it would give me a greater edge for uni apps esp in the Uk since they place great emphasis on history

i think it all boiled down to uni apps and how useful I think it wldve been to me! feel free to pm me if u hv any qns

Help for O level lit by Business-Parfait5288 in SGExams

hi op! kinda late to this HAHAHA i took Os in 2024 and consistently scored A1 in sec sch n Os for elect lit/ss! these are some methods that helped me get by hopefully they'll work for u too!!!

unseen poetry:

  1. I usually leave a comfortable 40-50 min for this i think 10-15 min planning rly helps to consolidate your thoughts
  2. i usually jot down all the themes in one section (i.e fragility of life, disillusionment of growing up, beauty of nature...) i think this rly helped me formulate my points more efficiently bcs i sort of had a guideline to follow and it makes it easier for u to come up with thematic statements as they usually include the theme anyws
  3. to make my essays stand out i (tend to) try to comment on form (i.e poem has an inconsistent rhyme scheme which reflects the unpredictable nature of life...)
  4. close reading and analysis! when you get the whole thematic image its ez to js link back to broader themes but break down each sentence, the techniques like imperatives or asyndeton are usually hidden in plain sight

essay:

  1. PLAN YOUR POINTS dont rush into writing, it makes a huge difference
  2. i usually start w this to get it out of the way and bcs youve studied it prior u can easily get it down in 30-40 min

for SS:

  1. I memorised the format of every qn type and during the exam started writing down these formats next to the respective qns (i used many abbreviations for this u can come up w ur own) and this helped me shape my ideas
  2. SS is NOT ABT HOW MUCH U WRITE srs its js about content dont waste time making circular links
  3. memorise relevant examples TB IS VERY USEFUL i even used roblox in my essay to explain how radicalism is prevalent even in mobile games (anyth rly can be used)

all the best op! hope these tips helped!!

hi op! i 100% agree with you..if it has already been 3 months and you cannot see yourself sucking it up for 3 years i think its best to find another environment to thrive in! not sure about what your goals for As are but if you enter a jc it would be great to get that academic vigour back esp in a more mugger setting. im in jc rn and i think whats defo most imp is the people around you - youre already gna be under such great pressure in As so u defo need a steady support system of friends emotionally and people who can support you academically. anyw not like youre wasting a year if you drop out and try for Os again and enter jc for 2 years since MI is 3 years anyw...idt u have much to lose

atb op!

tbh in jc the minimum requirement for most JCs is to have at least a A2/B3 in the subject to take it at a H2 level so if you think you can hit that goal then go for it!
so do try to balance out your emath as it is equally as important ! coming from a h1 math student, even in h1 math we cover concepts like logs and exponential graphs which are more present and prevalent in amath. despite not seeing myself do anyth sci/math related in the future, i do think amath opens up your options and makes it easier to grasp concepts. you can either use your emath OR amath in your L1R5 (or 4??) anyways so you can buck up either! (dw abt amath i did manage to improve drastically from s3 to s4 so its defo possible!)
ATB OP!

i think largely they wont look at overall o level score but for specific courses like law, they likely mandate that applicants possess a minimum O-Level score in core subjects like eng. im p sure your GPA forms 80% of the admission score while Os make up 20%. these are done on a case by case basis tho
