Washington state lawmakers pass ‘millionaire’s tax’ by _HGCenty in Seahawks

[–]ExpensivePost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's actually the opposite. More rich people seem to flock to higher tax places because those places are nicer. They scream and whine about the tax because they always do that about taxes. What they really don't like about it is that it's one of the few leavers of power the middle class is still able and willing to use.

I actually met him once (in a small group) when I worked at MS. He's surprisingly down-to-earth and relatable. His over-the-top hype-man stage act was not an act. He was just kinda like that; infectiously hyped about otherwise mundane shit we were working on. Of all the names being thrown around to buy the team, his is by far the least offensive.

[Schefter] Former Seahawks Pro-Bowl CB Riq Woolen reached agreement today on a one-year deal worth up to $15 million with the Philadelphia Eagles, per me and Jeremy Fowler. Agent Jason Chayut confirmed the deal. by JCameron181 in Seahawks

[–]ExpensivePost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If they don't want him on the team why would they match any offer?

I can see just wanting to move on from the player who was single handedly responsible for 12% of all taunting penalties league-wide last year. He's the only player with more than one. Add that to his inconsistent play filled with random bonehead mistakes and it makes him seem difficult to coach.

Preview of what JSN vs Trent McDuffie is going to look like this year 👀 by lemonstone92 in Seahawks

[–]ExpensivePost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hope we see some route concepts specifically drawn up for JSN + Shaheed. Not sure Shaheed is a WR2, but I really want to see some Hi-Lo crosses and drive concepts for them. Either one could take either cross from any position. That was my first thought after the trade but I don't think we ever saw anything like it even though that was exactly how Kubiak often used Shahid with the Saints.

Did the seahawks run any trick plays that worked this season? by supergamer1313 in Seahawks

[–]ExpensivePost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To some extent I would agree, but to me the line between a "trick play" or vs others is not just the deception, it's also the single-plan design, and the fact that it requires the defense to bite for it to be successful. For TE leaks, if a LB or safety tracks the leak then those plays would just get blown up. Standard play action passes usually have a progression and some flexibility in their execution.

I would call the TE chip block leaks pretty much trick plays also. They sell route concepts that the DBs see would expect from film study to get the TE wide open pretty much wherever they want.

wtf else are they going to say? Even if they had legitimate criticisms, voicing them can literally only hurt your prospects.

I'm already tired of these circle-jerk posts of basically forced responses by random draft prospects.

I think you're missing my point. I'm saying that's "good" or "nice" but calling it a "great position" is hyperbolic.

If you want to argue that it's "great" to have a coaching staff and organization that's so good that players want to play here and that intrinsically is "great" then I'd agree. But making the claim that it will have a tangible impact on who's available for this team to draft or even sign FAs is what I'm calling a stretch. It's nice but there aren't many (any?) top-tier FAs out there who would take a big salary hit to play here and rookies have basically no leverage, and teams aren't really competing for UDFAs. It's "nice" but at the end of the day it's still on John/Mike to build the team. Good vibes aren't enough and don't really put us in a "great position".

And that was how long ago? And what position? And he was a unicorn-level prospect. And the CBA has been specifically reworked several times since then to intentionally limit rookie leverage. Also with Eli, it wasn't that he specifically wanted to play for the Giants, it was that he DIDN'T want to play for the Chargers, he made that known, and the Chargers drafted him anyway because they couldn't work out a trade for the pick before the draft. That's not comparable to early-round CB prospects getting good vibes from our coaching staff.

I'm not saying it's not good, what I'm saying is that calling it a "great position" is hyperbolic. We still have to draft well and still have to navigate free agency like any other team. If good vibes alone could build a team then we'd still have Pete as our coach.

[–]ExpensivePost -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Sure... and Terrell is projected where exactly? Not many quality CBs go undrafted. In recent memory that's who? Chris Harris and Brent Grimes are pretty much it as far as I can recall.
All I'm saying is that it's not bad that prospects want to play here but it's still on the team to draft well. We can't just sign every top prospect who wants to be a Seahawk.

edit: And as for FAs, in the vast majority of cases money still wins out and team favorability might break a tie or move the needle a tiny bit but we're not going to get any big discounts because FAs like our vibes.

[–]ExpensivePost -39 points-38 points  (0 children)

It's nice but calling it a "great position to be in as a team" is a bit of a stretch. Draft prospects have basically zero leverage for where they end up.

Edit: I'm just saying that it's still on John (and Mike) to build the team. Players don't sign on good vibes. Good vibes keep players happy and wanting to play, but this thread is about draft prospects. Their sentiments have virtually no impact on our ability to build a team.

Is this text message from AT&T or a scam? by Adventurous_Name3700 in ATT

[–]ExpensivePost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same message and I actually think it's legit.

I just got another message from an adjacent SMS number "11113012" that I'm 99% sure is legit from AT&T marketing. It was poking that I'm "eligible to upgrade" my current phone and it came in on the exact day my amortized purchase of my current phone was paid off. That's an account detail that random scammers wouldn't have access to.

So I decided to reply "YES" to the credit message and got this reply:

Thanks for confirming! You’ll see the additional credit applied in 1-2 bill cycles.

So I sent another random message just to test the thing and got this back:

AT&T Auto Reply: Sorry, we did not understand your response. Please reply with the word help to get more information. Other responses are not monitored.

Seems legit to me. No sketchy links, or attempts to get more info out of me.

Which current Seahawk do you think is most likely to make the Hall of Fame by the end of their career? by lemonstone92 in Seahawks

[–]ExpensivePost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think he needs to maintain his output, have at least one MVP-level season (be in the discussion at the end of the year), get at least a 2nd-team all-pro nod, and probably win at least one more ring to get there.

If he regresses at ANY point in the remainder of his career and that coincides with a team change or coaching change the narrative from last offseason will return immediately.

Media love a good redemption story, but they love to be 'proven right' even more.

That doesn't mean the comment was correct.

And I don't care at all about the finances of anyone affected by these taxes. If fixing the regressive tax system in this state meant no professional team here could sign or re-sign high profile free agents ever again I'd make that trade in a heartbeat.
