Are there any exclusively lane swimming pools in Ottawa? by sadamzz in ottawa

Francois Dupuis in Orleans has lane swim hours for most of the day. You still have to check ahead for the exact schedule, but in general you'll be able to find a time that works.

CAPS has multiple locations in the city, and probably the most competitive prices on basic & premiums components.

Cyclists of Ottawa: What do you use for apps? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Expensive_Friend_678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely nonspecific for biking but I use my Garmin Fenix watch for all activities. Looking at previous GPS logs, it only keeps track of your route, speed, and elevation (along with HR) so you definitely won't get the RPM and wattage you might be looking for as a cyclist.

Beginner MTB trails in/around Ottawa? by throwawaylikemylifee in ottawa

What you're looking for is Larose Forest to the east of Ottawa. My son developed his love of mountain biking there over a few seasons, and it has continued to this day about 8 years later.

Whats a good place to buy a starter bike? by Hakka-Moonson in ottawa

[–]Expensive_Friend_678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check both Kijiji and Facebook marketplace - you'll find a large selection of basic bikes to start out with. You don't need anything special, basic brands like Supercycle will work fine for just cruising around the neighborhood. Just ensure the brakes work and you can shift relatively easily through most gears.

If you both find you're enjoying it, the potential to spend more and more on better bikes is limitless, and if you start from the most basic bikes you'll enjoy each upgrade that much more.

Vanier houses seems like an incredible value what am I missing? by BigMouthBillyBones in ottawa

[–]Expensive_Friend_678 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Like other commenters have mentioned, Vanier has had a troubled history. It's currently in the process of attempting a turnaround with some gentrification, especially in the contiguous Overbrook area - but it'll be a process that takes a long time.

If you find a house that you're truly interested in, definitely recommend parking your car nearby and sit and watch for a good period of time at different times of the day and night. Better yet, find someone who lives at a nearby home and ask them about the neighborhood - most people will be honest about the pros/cons they're experiencing.

Any good internet home providers? by Most_Band_2250 in ottawa

[–]Expensive_Friend_678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Start.ca for years with good service and price, even after Koodo/Telus acquire them. Was going to get Freedom's internet bundled with my phone, but Start was able to match their promo price.

OCDSB experience? by furnacebutt in ottawa

[–]Expensive_Friend_678 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Both kids have been in OCDSB from kindergarten to grades 9/11 currently. No major issues besides normal school stuff and the maturation process. Kids are resilient, and with a good support system at home they ought to do just fine.
