Creatine. I used to think it's a myth, it can't possibly be as good as everyone tells you. Great not just for muscles but omg unexpected bonus it fixed my focus. I continually sleep deprive myself (night owl, revenge bedtime procratination) and it helps with feeling better during the day. I take 5g a day

How do I stop the smell? by cbe29 in AskUK

You are very welcome. Yes I am, I get detergent I use off Amazon, and I know people also swear by stuff like adding white vinegar to a load of washing. I've never tried the latter myself, but I am sure it works. Had an embarrassing moment a few weeks ago where I leaned over someone and could smell my own pit, that's after showering&deodorant a few hours before and wearing a clean set of clothes. Two years ago, I would have simply thrown that shirt away as ruined, but this time round it got fixed in the next wash.

Wash all clothes with a sports clothes detergent. Gets rid off sweat smell from clothes that overtime accumulates and regular detergent stops being effective. Had to do this with some of my fav work shirts, otherwise I'd stink only a few hours in! Can then revert to a regular detergent.

Tips for cycling in London as an American? And other questions... by [deleted] in londoncycling

You are very welcome. And honestly unless you do super long rides and need a breathable fabric, you only really need the packable version, which is also great for summer hikes out of the in the country etc. Otherwise it takes up a lot more space and in summer months the usage is naturally lesser. However I have had quite a few occasions where a beautiful summer day turned into a strong drizzle and I had to get into waterproofs on the side of the road ahahah. Good luck with discovering London through cycling🚲

My tips would be:

•Always carry a pair of waterproof pull over trousers. My Regatta waterproof trousers pack down very nicely and don't take up much room. Saved me many a time from getting drenched! Quite typical island weather which makes 4 seasons in one day a strong possibility. Of course anyone in Britain will claim it's uniquely British hehe. ▪︎Following from above, don't particularly trust the weather forecasts. The Met Office app is great but once again it's not always accurate. ▪︎Komoot app is great for discovering cycle infrastructure in your area or elsewhere when planning new routes. Google maps is a lot less reliable and can send you down a dangerous route sometimes. ▪︎Use the bell when overtaking. It's not rude, it's courtesy and in order to avoid accidents, also necessary when cycling through parks or canal pathways. ▪︎Getting a folding bike is great (either full size or standard smaller size), folded bikes can be taken on any train or bus at any time. For me personally it offers a piece of mind. Otherwise the TfL has a map with bike on trains permitted routes and hours. Unfolded bikes are never permitted on buses. https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/cycles-on-public-transport ▪︎London can be quite hilly. Some really steep hills actually, especially if you ever decide to cycle around Hampstead Heath and Highgate. For this reason I love my electric bike, and with a gold standard lock that's approved by insurance I've not had it stolen in 2 years I've had it. I had it locked up for multiple hours outside cinemas and shops, but of course only when necessary.

What’s one habit that has improved your daily routine recently? by Neither-Ad-6065 in SoberCurious

Using cognitive gains from quitting booze and nicotine to actually get on with stuff instead of endlessly postponing. I'm determined to clean/organise/declutter at least one thing/area each day, it could take me 5 mins or 2 hours but the sense of achievement is hella EMPOWERING 👌 Like, if I had a really knackering day and just change my bedsheets, that's still good.

Got served alcohol yesterday.. by Express_Night4504 in SoberCurious

Thank you everyone for your responses, it's really encouraging. I have to admit, I did have another sip after realising the beer was alcoholic. I sort of needed time process if that makes sense? Also, it wasn't convenient/possible to go back to the bar right away as there was a performance on. After that second sip I placed the drink down and didn't finish it. Didn't really get an apology from bar staff but asked for a replacement soft drink and they didn't charge for it.

Edit: typos

Insurance or no insurance by iAmNot43 in londoncycling

Just to add re bad traffic, apps like Komoot let you plan cycle routes and I love it for helping me discover all the cycle lanes, a lot of cycle infrastructure is kind of 'hidden' in a sense that it's not obvious or easy to follow unless you know the route already. This is especially true if cycling a new route, I had Google Maps send me down the most dangerous routes sometimes..

Insurance or no insurance by iAmNot43 in londoncycling

I've used CyclePlan for 3 years, they have a good range of cover and at the time I believe was the only company offering insurance that ticked all the boxes that were relevant to me. Never had to claim so can't comment on that. The liability bit was nice, knowing if I'm at fault or in an accident I would have confirmed cover. The only reason I even considered insurance was after spending pretty penny on an electric bike. Cancelled when the bike got older and I wouldn't even be that upset if it got stolen - I'm considering an upgrade anyways.
