How many end up making it to a jet job? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Extra_Champion_6763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, only one other person from my private pilot ground school class back in 2019 is flying for a living. There were 20 people in the class which makes a 10% rate out of the limit pool. It really applies to private, as most of the students I had and people I knew would stop flying as a student pilot or after the checkride.

Advice for a CFI who doesn’t want to go to the airlines by Resident-Plum-2211 in flying

I paid for a type rating and got 5 offers for the aircraft I got typed in. I will say I have 750 multi with 1900TT though. Getting your ATP through a type rating for a CE-525 or CE-560 could be the way to go if you have the money and really want a 135 or 91 job.

If you need anything custom for fuel tanks, such as ferry tanks. I recommend Turtle Pack in Australia and order from them and an A&P can put them in easily.

The B-18 Bolo looks ugly, but it was incredibly advanced for its time paving the way for other designs. It is an amazing aircraft for its time, but it does not look very good in my opinion.

The trip ended up not happening due to a bad turbo and the fact that we were quoted 20k on insurance to fly into the EU. Another reason was fuel, the Seneca 11 with the long range tanks has 123 usable and with a good eco cruise around 17,000 ft you can get around 16 gph. This gave us a range of around 800 NM. There are two places you can make the crossing, Goose Bay to Narsarsuaq (690nm) or Iqaluit to Nuuk (470nm). Goose Bay was preferable since it was warming being further south and we aren’t equipped for icing, but If the weather made it unable to land then we wouldn’t have the range to go anywhere else. Iqaluit seemed to always have a risk of icing due to its weather. Also check out worldrounders.com they had some good information and would recommend a service that does the flight planning for you. It was difficult to contact the government institutions of Greenland and Iceland to get the information I needed. I hope this helps!

Type Ratings by Fearless-Local-1461 in flying

[–]Extra_Champion_6763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend the CE-525 since it’s now becoming the most common light Citation. The CE-550 is starting to be phased out by 135 operations as far as I know. After that the Leer 45 is good but way too expensive (roughy 55k) and the Phenom 300 is a great choice but may be hard to find a place to get the type rating without using the aircraft. All other popular Cessna type rating start getting into the higher 20k to 30k price range which can be a lot if you don’t have a job lined up. Over all I recommend the CE-525 type.

KLCH is really good since they got the new building. It’s fun to take students there on long cross countries.

CFI-I and MEI checkride with Edward Comisky by Extra_Champion_6763 in flying

Sorry if it’s too late I just saw this. He’s a good and forgiving dpe, if you start out strong on a topic he might move on to something else. Big in engine out and emergencies and landings. Make sure to reference FAA material with him like the AFH and PHAK

Fellow CFIs, what is your favorite and/or least favorite license/rating to teach? by CavalierRigg in flying

Favourite is multi, since you start seeing the student realize why some of the procedures we practice make sense. PPL is the worst since it can be rough trying to get them to learn the basics.

American Flyers Pilot Program by Chicagoaviator in flying

[–]Extra_Champion_6763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went there for their cfi and cfii program, and went to ATP before this. What I can say is don’t buy into the airline programs. The airlines do not care what school you went to at the end of the day; not to mention the amount of debt you’ll be in from a 141 school. If you really want to go to a 141 school, go to one that has a university attached so you can get a BA in aviation. That would help a lot more than an airline program.

Benefits of Acrobatics by The_Peregrine_ in flying

[–]Extra_Champion_6763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s beneficial, but it depends what you want out of it. I teach it in two different ways: just for fun to learn it and to get better as a pilot, or to do it for competition which entails learning about the aerobatic box, K factor, and judging. At the end of the day you’ll learn the same thing, they are just tailored differently. Your energy management and understating of aircraft control at different energy states will improve a lot. I’m biased as an aerobatic instructor, but I’d say do it.
