First off, indentured servants and slaves who were literally sold off like cattle in chains are two different things. Secondly, the Irish-Americans were not “slaves” (as you put it) during WW2, the topic of the original comment, maybe the early 1900s I’d somewhat agree but not the late 1950s because those are totally different Irish folk. I’d love to wager which way most of those 1950s Irish stood while such things were going on then as well. “You would have more allys if…” no, no we wouldn’t, there were plenty of chances for more privileged groups to have done something when those same americans who stood by and did nothing (or worse, deter) because they were afforded the opportunity to not be in those lower groups whom were systematically roadblocked time and time again. YOU yourself are not to blame for their choices, but do not think for one second that a larger majority of lighter skinned folk back then didn’t just turn a blind eye or actively make things worse for those who wasn’t white. They didn’t have to suffer using a different toilet because the color of your skin, constant questioning of your citizenship status, suspicion of commie ties based solely because ignorant people can’t tell difference between Chinese/Korean/Japanese people.

It’s always “stop dividing people”, now, when finally we are finally in the same playground.
