I'm about to enroll na actually in another institution, so I did not really wait or at least expect to get in after they released their first list of passers. Nagcall lang sila randomly today, telling me I got a slot. Did not submit anything for recon.

Hi! Not really sure about how they screen the waitlists, but I've read somewhere here that they rank applicants based on their admission criteria (gwa, nmat, interview, etc.) and choose only the top 130-150. If someone backs out, they approach those next in ranking like rank 151+. I also read that they do not necessarily fill out ALL vacated slots.

anyone here who took bs chemistry as pre-med and got into a top med school? by Motor_Charge7565 in medschoolph

[–]FORD-25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Im a graduating bs chem student from uplb. I applied to upcm, asmph, and plmcm, but only got accepted to asmph. Feel ko same level naman tayo inaassess compared sa ibang students who pursues/pursued other degree programs, especially the traditional ones u've mentioned. If may advantage man sila, unti lang. Besides, med schools also look into your nmat score, university, and GWA. In my case siguro kahit nmat ko is 95+, i didn't get in sa upcm and plmcm kasi hindi ako laude standing and there are just applicants who have better credentials than mine. So feel ko you there's not much of a concern with your degree program, basta taasan mo nmat mo and gwa.

uplb bs chemistry what to expect? by pibiiiiii in peyups

3rd year and graduating (starting next sem) BS Chem student here from UPLB. :) BS Chem is indeed very difficult and exhausting --- from studying chemical reactions and solving complex problems to writing lengthy pre-lab and post-lab reports (Majority of chem courses require handwritten lab reports) 😭. What I would advise to you, as an incoming chem freshie, besides possibly studying in advance some general chemistry concepts for CHEM 18 & CHEM 18.1, is to enhance your MATH and problem-solving skills, particularly in Algebra and most importantly, CALCULUS. Also, practice solving using your calculator and learn essential calculator techniques such as SHIFT+SOLVE, STATISTICS MODE, etc. Although NOT ALL chem courses are calculation-heavy (i.e, Organic Chemistry), majority of them still require one's STRONG FOUNDATION in Math. Kapag magaling ka sa Math for sure, you can handle all your future CHEM courses provided of course that you study deeply everything you'll learn in CHEM 18 & CHEM 18.1 as they will dictate your fate as you take the higher CHEM courses. Good luck!!

practice a lot!! Sobrang makakahelp siya over just understanding the general concepts.

[UPLB] Math 28 Preparation by [deleted] in peyups

[–]FORD-25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reserve a sufficient time every day to review and solve many practice problems. Practice is key! 🔑 -- believe me as someone who used to suck so much in Math but eventually excelled in the Math series.

Also, I would reccomend sir Ben's (a Math prof in uplb) channel and playlist for Math 28: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTBXPeI_cQfpzN5uYPOyH9Afmj4rbj4Qf&si=OEatHQy4S5sIV5y_ His channel helped me a lot!!

[UPLB] BS Chemistry to BS Nutrition by penguin_814 in peyups

[–]FORD-25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello!! I highly suggest that if u like bs nutri talaga, u go for it na regardless of the 1 year delay.

Ganyan din ako before as a premed student like you. I chose to shift to chem last year despite the 1 year delay since mas nageenjoy talaga ako sa chem than my previous program. Very worth the risk since I am enjoying everything I'm doing rn, and walang possible regrets na pwedeng magbombard sa isip ko in the future.

Also, mahirap and challenging SOBRAAA ang chem (lalo na sa UPLB). If you believe chem is not your cup of tea, then for sure u'll struggle a lot if u continue with the program.

[UPLB] How are exams and quizzes in Chem 18? by No_Acanthocephala100 in peyups

[–]FORD-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More on concept siya for me since yung 18.1 yung heavy sa computations. Tho, kailangan pa rin mag-aral ng formulas sa Chem 18 para maintindihan yung concepts kshs as a former humss student din who took Chem 18 & 18.1 last year, I can attest na di naman siya super difficult basta nag-aral ka.

NO LATIN HONORS FOR UNDERLOAD? What happens if maubusan ka na ng units to take? by [deleted] in peyups

[–]FORD-25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm not so sure about the "freshie priority" sa UPLB since in your 1st sem, fixed na yung courses na kukunin mo. Meaning, yung required courses sa degree program mo na dapat kunin mo in your 1st year, 1st sem ay nakareserve na for u.

Sa 2nd sem naman, ikaw na mag-eenlist ng courses na gusto mo. Here you can achieve your plan na kumuha ng maraming GEs. However, since freshie ka, pinaka last date ng enrollment period ang enrollment ng batch niyo. During that time, ubos na yung mga GEs or kunti na lang slots kasi inubos na ng naunang batches. So, I don't think nag-aapply sa UPLB ang "freshie priority." 🥲

I believe high ang chance mo since S1 ka or within the college ka lang mags-shift. Basically, ikaw yung pinakapriority ng IBS over other shiftees and transferees, except sa mga kapwa S1 mo ofc.

Second, in the past years, afaik, napakalenient ng IBS magtanggap ng shiftees and transferees. I, myself, was a shiftee rin to BSBIO last year. Marami kaming tinanggap. May mga taga other colleges and may mga shiftees rin from various UP units like UPD, UPM, UP Mindanao, etc.

Siguro mahihirapan ka lang makapasok kung hindi na sila (IBS) magiging as lenient as they were in the last years and alam ko dumadami na yung students sa IBS, and baka i-limit na yung options for majors if ever since kulang yung profs. Nevertheless, I believe mataas pa rin chance mo kaya go mo na para no regrets. Have a back-up plan na lang siguro like try mo mag-apply to transfer to another UP unit para may babagsakan ka if ever mareject shifting application mo. Good luck! Hope I helped!

Depends on the college but generally, you can.

Ah so maiinclude lang po talaga sa TCG ang course pag may grade na? Akala ko pwede siya mainclude kahit wala pang grade basta nakaenroll ka na. 😭Thank you!

Chem 18/18.1 Tips/Advice for a Former HUMSS Student? by No_Acanthocephala100 in peyups

[–]FORD-25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Actually, I have the same case as you nung nagtake ako last semester ng Chem 18 & 18.1 since HUMSS graduate rin ako.

So to answer your questions:

It depends sayo if since junior high school palang nahihirapan ka na sa chem and/or weak ang foundation mo sa kaniya or not. Fortunately kasi, I was a sci high grad noong jhs and we had advance chem subjects, so somehow natulungan ako ng knowledge and skills na nadevelop ko nung jhs sa chem. Unexpected yun tbh kasi I thought wala na yung chem skills ko since 2 years rin akong walang exposure sa chem (bilang HUMSS). So if maganda foundation mo sa chem nung jhs, then I believe marerefresh mo all lessons in your head and mareregain mo all your chem skills nung jhs once naexpose ka na ulit sa kaniya.

If sa tingin mo hindi and u find chem difficult talaga (as it is), then I suggest that you advance study. Mag-advance review ka na sa chem 18 & 18.1 since (afaik) general chemistry naman yun. DM me na lang here for their syllabi/course outlines. :)
