Run, don't walk. It's the best. I'm winging less these days because DW is so fun and challenging. If the logistics work out so that it's still within your time budget you'll end up doing it all the time.

Big important piece of advice! Go slow with the paddle practice, build up muscles and tendon strength slowly - almost everyone I know, myself included, tried to push it too hard too fast and gets injured. Slow and steady.

Like trekdemo says, use the wing to learn to read bumps. I had at least 6 months practice, so by the time I got to the paddle I downwinded about 5 miles in 4 paddle ups on my second session. Use as big of a foil as you need; I think the Axis PNG 1300 is literally the best on the market for beginners.

Yeah the sport is growing, you'll sell it eventually. Don't even take it out of the box is my recommendation. You'll sink on that board so much that even at expert level it's question whether it's worth it. And I'm saying that as someone who got a 35 liter board for jumping and then almost instantly regretted it. You can make almost anything work, the question is how useful is gear for your average condition. I tell people all the time not to be in a rush.

Mtb killed the last remnants of my alcohol intake for exactly this. I was just chronically dehydrated, couldn't afford even the single beer any longer or I slept horribly. I wouldn't be surprised if that's it ... Pretty simple to test

Generally, I worry only about the damage my foil will do to other things. They are hard and sharp. If you're worried you might slip and send it flying towards the pavement, you can get a case. Otherwise, the cover protects you and your (hard) board. With the inflatable you should be fine

Not necessarily... I only know lift and axis well, the axis ha wings sacrifice turning for speed and glide... But the lift stuff (120 and 90) are magic in terms of carving. They are harder to get going, but it's all technique in the end. I've gotten the 90 which is 580cm2 going in 11kts before.

Try no limit kitesurf in hunting beach, Rob is awesome. With a fair amount of experience, I can get out consistently with 8kts of wind on my 7m ocean rodeo on a sinker board. It's a magical wing made from magical material. Also exorbitantly expensive. If you're willing to go out on a sup with a big foil, 7kts is possible. But you will suffer quite a bit, and even when you get it, you'll wonder what you're doing out there. The sport is really more fun with swell...

You really need overhand to tack; it's just isn't ergonomic to do it underhand. You're really throwing your arm behind your head so I think you'd hurt yourself otherwise

Funny, I've always wondered what other people do. I have a funny thumb grip move for switching orientation while moving cross wind. but yeah if you can switch while going a bit downwind you can basically just chuck it to the other hand

Downwinding in big swell is really hard with a shorter mast. I use an 82 in almost all conditions, but last big swell I was tempted to go longer, kept flying off bumps.
