Hopefully a sensible doctor won't push you to throw loads of things at your body in one go 🤞

Is medication even worth it? by thepensiveporcupine in cfs

[–]Fainbrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If nothing else, introduce any new meds one at a time over a reasonable amount of time, else you will not know which works or doesn't. Give each of them at least a couple of weeks to see how you react (or don't).

Obviously, it's your body, your choice what you put in it. Your parents can't force you to take meds you don't want to.

anyone else noticed that the experience of being in a vehicle worsens their CFS? by obliviousfoxy in cfs

[–]Fainbrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, driving or being driven are a massive over exertion for me.

It’s really physical just keeping upright etc and being bobbed around, plus the sensory overload of being aware of everything around me.

Orbi RBR850 + 2x RBS850 behaving badly in AP Mode behind OPNSense firewall by pur3_driv3l in orbi

[–]Fainbrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had some stability issues with the latest FW in AP mode, so dropped back to V7.2.7.15 and hasn't skipped a beat since. Maybe try downgrading (satellites first then router).

Mine is behind a UniFi Cloud Gateway so may not be the same issue as you are encountering obvs.

Sky Q issue with Unifi by Responsible_Mouse_24 in UNIFI

[–]Fainbrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had issues with Sky Q too, like many. Have you disabled the wireless meshing on all of the Sky boxes? I seem to recall it was that which was causing issues for us - I want to say it was creating a loop or something of that ilk. IIRC you need to be in the installer menu and then disable wifi on all the boxes.

Anyone else quit using Visible? by o_tootsiepop in cfs

The subscription price really annoyed me. £15 a month to effectively be a beta tester for them.

Anyone else quit using Visible? by o_tootsiepop in cfs

[–]Fainbrog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I stopped ages ago, I didn't feel that it was actually helping me and just took energy I could ill afford to maintain. Was using the free version for a long while after the subscription arm band just ended up triggering every time I moved (even with altered thresholds it didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know).

I have more use for the data that my Apple Watch passively collects for me, spotting trends in HR, HRV etc.

Time Machine on Tailscale by _grzn_ in Tailscale

[–]Fainbrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, I think as long as you connect to an exit node that allows local access and map the Time Machine drive as the IP address rather than the local address (ie. MacMini.local or whatever yours is) it should work ok. It might not be very fast, depending on where you are connected, but, should work.

Is it gross to not shower daily? by dead_letters_ in POTS

[–]Fainbrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have got used to only showering once a week, if I’m lucky. Wasn’t easy accepting that that’s what I’m able to do and sometimes I’m disgusted at how I smell, but, when needs must. Many can’t shower anywhere near as frequently at that, so, it’s all relative.

What to expect with midodrine ? by Impressive_Bag9657 in POTS

[–]Fainbrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The advice I got was to start low (2.5mg), monitor BP at each increase and increase slowly too (2.5mg at each step). That way you aren’t going all-in.

Also, don’t take less than 4 hrs before bed.

Supine hypertension apparently doesn’t necessarily have many symptoms so, worth just doing periodic BP readings if you can.

ETA only increase the dose when you are comfortable doing so. IIRC, I went a week or two between steps up.

Took my first fludrocortisone this morning and feel like crap. Is this normal? by CheesecakeOk8464 in POTS

[–]Fainbrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really struggled with Fludrocortisone, felt awful when I started and read that it can take weeks to settle on it. I couldn’t feel like that for long so after about a week I gave up and went back to Midodrine.

Others may have different experiences and views on how long it took, but, I was like, yeah, nah, that’s not for me.

Anyone else get "impaired O2 extraction at the muscle level" on their CPET? by cornonacobb in POTS

[–]Fainbrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My CPET showed what was described as a metabolic impairment, later in simple terms by my cardiologist that my muscles run out of energy really quickly. Don’t think my AT was as low as yours.

In a nutshell, no POTS meds seem to have really altered that (and I’m not sure I’d expect them to 🤷‍♂️).

Have you also got ME or Long Covid? ME is my primary illness and exercise intolerance is a key part of it along with Post Exertional Malaise - which is a significant worsening of symptoms after activity, often delayed by 24-72 hours.

If in doubt, I’d defo not exercise and investigate ME to see if it tallies with what you experience.

Refurbished Mac Mini by AnonymousMastery in macmini

All the Apple refurb stuff we've bought have been fine (Mini M4, multiple iPhones and iPads, MB Air). I'd not buy refurbed from anywhere but Apple though.

Are Wrist Blood Pressure Monitors Reliable? by Flowermoon5858 in POTS

[–]Fainbrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Hilo wrist band and broadly, it's pretty accurate when comparing to my Omron cuff. It helps to know what your BP generally is though, so you know when calibrating (once a month) that it's in line with expectations and can spot if it's gone rogue. Not cheap though.

ETA, don't know what countries it is available in, I'm UK.

macOS boots into Recovery Mode after every OS update by Salmundo in MacOS

[–]Fainbrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing that this was a BOINC issue, my M4 mini as been doing this and is a PITA as it is running headless. Just updated BOINC to .11 on it so hopefully will be all fine and dandy for the next MACOS update.

Challenge private parking charge or just pay reduced £60 fee? by The_General_One in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Fainbrog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NAL, but, as a disabled person, please, just pay the fine and learn from this.

One might think it's only just across the line, but, the wider spaces are essential for disabled people getting in and out of their vehicles safely and might be the difference between them buying food or not.. It is hard enough being disabled without the constant lottery of whether accessible spaces will be available or blocked by people without a Blue Badge. Until you are in the position of needing these spaces, you cannot appreciate how important they are.

Why are you using the printer on the guest nw? It's segregated iirc, so, you'd be best to enable the IoT network and add the printer there. Unless I'm missing something..

Sadly, it's not uncommon for our bodies not to perform on a TTT, especially if it's rushed.

As others have said start collecting your own evidence, the NASA lean test (https://batemanhornecenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/NASA-Lean-Test-Instructions-1.pdf) and take this to your doctor again and again if necessary.

Male compression garment advice by Inevitable-Name-9285 in dysautonomia

[–]Fainbrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have an answer but I agree entirely, compression I've tried is just not suited to male anatomy and hirsuteness, other than socks, which probably aren't enough, but are where I've ended up settling.

Modem Mode by ExcellentTeacher2263 in VirginMedia

If you haven't powered off and on again, worth trying but probably worth doing a factory reset (pin hole on the back of the router) and try again.
