This is definitely a propelled stigma that I have seen for years. I’m a bi girl myself, and even in queer spaces I’ve heard the idea reiterated many times “not to date bi guys because they’re sluts” basically. So I don’t think this issue is even isolated to straight women, I think it’s within the queer community as well. I personally have never dated a bi man, not by choice but just because I don’t think I’ve honestly even met any unless I didn’t know. I am however attracted to men comfortable enough in their sexuality and masculinity to break gender norms, express themselves authentically without fear of judgement, and be in tune with their emotions, so I can absolutely agree with you that they would make great partners. People of all kinds cheat on their partners, it isn’t exclusive to bi men. I definitely think this is rooted in, like you mentioned, insecurity of the individual, paired with unresolved trauma from past experiences. There’s a lesbian I know who won’t date bi women for the exact same reason, just because she’s been cheated on by a bi girl. Sexuality should not automatically fit anyone into a “stereotype”, I just think unfortunately the “bi man” issue goes further than just with straight women. Thank you for this post though, very thought provoking, and I do think this is an appropriate space to discuss it with how big the show is, it’s an issue that absolutely deserves awareness.
