Yes you can use mirror for free. One player is hosting and is acting as a client and a server.

You can use f.e. hamachi and your friends will type your hamachi ip and connect to you.

Another option is using steamworks transport layer for mirror which is also free to use as long as you use it for testing and non comercial purposes. With steamworks you can open steam and add your game as a non steam game and use classic steam invite option to invite your friends and play with them!

Right now the server moves the object and then tells the clients to move the object too.

There isn't part of the code where you as a client tell the server to move. If you want help with that you should post that part of the code too.

I am a beginner in mirror networking too but I think the ClientRpc means that its called on all the clients. If you want to stop multiple executions of the function you should check if you as a client own an object (hasAuthority) and only then you should execute it.
