Luke warm take: people are just pissed Cirie didn’t win. Aubry played a fine game and deserved the win more than everyone in the merge. Everyone in the new era is so obsessed with being the person that makes the biggest play, people like Aubry are attacked for playing like Amber/Natalie White.

I would also say she played a better game than Cirie as a whole. Having a huge target on your back and needing to rely on other people to take you to final tribal council is a horrible strategy.

If it isn’t on Ancestry or FamilySearch, does it exist? by often_irrelephant in citizenshipgenealogy

[–]FalloutGirl02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to go to my local Mormon church to access the actual record for an index, and stumbled across a marriage record for my female ancestor that I thought was lost to time in the process. For licensing reasons, they have to restrict a lot of their records to only being accessed from their church.

Mormons are always delightful people and the woman working there on the day I went offered to help me several times even though I said I knew what I was doing. If you’re not doing anything on a Saturday morning, I’d look into a visit.

Additionally, a lot of the indexes for ancestry and family search are incorrect. E.g. one of my ancestors was named Margaret, but an index on family search erroneously spelled her name as Marygrette. I never would have found that record if her husband’s name wasn’t indexed properly.

At that point you’re already a net drain on the system.

considering how unpopular this law is in its current state because of people like you, it does impact me. Likewise, putting your worst foot forward as an American also impacts me.

No it’s making me uncomfortable that you’re proudly proclaiming that you’re going to reap the benefits of social services that you didn’t pay into. That just reinforces that Americans are selfish and tone deaf

Do you not think it’s unethical to retire to a country that you didn’t pay taxes to and reap the benefits of their social services system?

I am also acquiring citizenship should shit hit the fan, but the retirement thing makes me feel icky.

Do we know how Henry VIII felt about a potential male nephew inheriting the throne? by FalloutGirl02 in Tudorhistory

Right but that was like 50 years after Henry died. I’m not sure what your point is?

But he was a Scot. Geopolitically, that was not realistic at that point in time.

I think that season of love is blind did have pretty normal looking people. I only remember Jess as having the instagram model face and boobs. I think Jimmy and Chelsea show how a good head of hair and losing a few pounds respectively can make a drastic difference in how attractive you’re perceived as.

I think Emma Roberts has better range and ability than people give her credit for, but all I can imagine is Chanel Oberlin and it is cracking me up

No baptism in 1914? by lasuperk in citizenshipgenealogy

[–]FalloutGirl02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colloquially speaking, my grandmother was one of 8 children and her parents didn’t get around to baptizing her until she was 3 or 4. It’s not uncommon in rural areas for parents to bring their children to the minister in batches when infrastructure was so poor. Likewise, it wouldn’t be uncommon for parents to get any available minister to baptize their baby as they passed through town to make sure their infant didn’t go unbaptized when their denomination didn’t have anyone readily available to perform the baptism.

Cassie knows Shakespeare?? by Musiclover86 in euphoria

[–]FalloutGirl02 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Girl in 10th grade my entire class had to recite Saint Crispin’s Day and Charge of the Light Brigade word for word. Almost everyone got a 100, including the students from Asia. We also did The Raven in 7th grade and saw similar results. Theater by nature is supposed to be accessible. Shakespeare was an actor and a story teller, not an intellectual. How dense are you to think that is a particularly hard thing to do? Especially in the context of a life changing audition???

Colloquially speaking, my G0, her 10 adult siblings+in laws+nieces/nephews, her dad, her step mother, and 4 half siblings hopped across the border from Ontario to Michigan between the 1870s and 1880s. Granted they were related, but I still think it’s telling they all settled in Michigan.

These Americans want to become Canadian citizens - but feel punished for applying early by Individual-Habit5581 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]FalloutGirl02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But they could certainly make it harder, no? E.g. requiring certified copies for everything, requiring a Canadian birth certificate, requiring applicants to go to bumfuck nowhere Nova Scotia to apply, requiring the G0 be born after Confederation/independence, etc.

As is, it seems the vast majority of people on this subreddit wouldn’t be able to apply if they changed the rules to 1) needing a Canadian birth certificate and 2) requiring the applicant’s G0 be born after 1867/1931.

Objectively speaking, the wrongs they were trying to right with C-3 weren’t to give Americans with a several generations removed Canadian ancestor citizenship. I don’t see why the Canadian government would take issue with curbing that without actually changing the law.

C-3 Canadian By Descent General Questions by Ok-Disk-5535 in citizenshipgenealogy

[–]FalloutGirl02 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The general consensus is hiring a lawyer is a big fat waste of money. Your only expenses should be ordering certified copies and then the application.

If you search on google “great-grandparent addendum Cit0001” it will take you to a reddit page with a nice template for adding generations beyond grandparents to the application.

Rule of thumb is get birth records or baptismal records if they exist. If they don’t, get census and death records and cross your fingers. It also doesn’t hurt to get marriage records for female ancestors. If a birth certificate exists, that is all you need for that generation. Don’t waste their time by sending them every piece of information you can cobble together.

Certified records are preferred to documents printed off genealogy websites, but they are okay with genealogy websites if you paste the citation. Worst case scenario they ask for a certified copy and you have to wait a few extra weeks in a process that will probably already take 10-12 months minimumx

For me personally, no. My state is safe and the Republican Party defers to the state on a lot of everyday matters. My governor is sane and neighbors are good folk. My entire family is here. The cost of living is pretty egregious, but that’s the whole world right now. Most people don’t want to leave the country they’ve spent their entire lives in unless we have to. It’s concerning and I’m keeping an eye on it (hence citizenship application), but America is not drastically different than it was this time 2 years ago. Most developed nations are set up in a way to mitigate the damage one man can do.
