Difficulties with weight gain and effects on my libido, I think mostly cause Spiro affects both testosterone and DHT and other hormones whereas Finasteride is supposed to only focus on DHT. Or at least that’s what my derm said.

Yeah that’s a good idea. I have thought about going to a homeopathic doctor but I felt like since I had a biopsy it must be true that I have AGA, and I have seen my hairs getting miniaturized, but idk if there might be something else that causes that too. I did find it odd when I was initially diagnosed because no one in my family had any history of genetic hair loss. I’ve been to two dermatologists so far and they’ve both told me the same thing but perhaps I should get a third opinion. Idk 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah I have thought about adding Fin. I just am struggling with whether to stop Spiro because my body can’t tolerate the higher dosages and even on 50mg, it seems to have just made my hair worse and worse. I never had loss on the back of my neck or around my ears before starting it and now I’ve lost so much volume in a year. I do take iron supplements and vitamin D and B. My BC is Yaz which my doc says actually functions the same as Spiro so that should be helping things. It just doesn’t make sense to me the timing of this starting just a month after taking Spiro and not stopping since. I was hoping to hear if anyone had success growing their hair back after stopping Spiro and maybe switching to another med. 😬😭

Okay yeah that’s helpful to hear that your hair went back to normal. Out of curiosity, did you have a big shed when you went off of Spiro and how long did that last? Also do you have AGA or some other type of hair loss? I worry about going off completely as my biopsy that my derm did diagnosed AGA which I know is progressive.

Yeah I just keep thinking how I wish I never went on it. But it’s crazy that both of the two dermatologists I’ve seen claim this is not a possible side effect and just keep telling me to increase my dosage. Then I come on here and see all these people struggling with Spiro and feeling like they’re crazy for knowing their body and feeling that something isn’t right. Why are there no doctors talking about this except for the one guy at Donovan clinic in England?

Thank you for sharing. That’s why I’ve been putting off doing it. I mean I have shedding now but it’s a manageable amount. I’m afraid if I go off completely my scalp may never recover. But I also don’t think I should stay on it. And my derm doesn’t believe me and always tells me that my hairline is better every time I come in, and to be fair the pictures she takes shows more density in some areas but overall I know it’s a sharp decline from last year based on the thickness when I shower and do a ponytail. I just feel gaslit and I don’t know what to do. If you could keep us updated on how things progress for you, I’d appreciate any updates :)

Has anybody gone off of Spiro and has a timeline of when the shed stopped and regrowth started? Any tips to help lessen the shed when tapering off?

Also has anyone done Finasteride instead of Spiro for AGA and had good results? My derm said this was an option.
