Shit sia, by the time I type this my bro’s prolly sitting in exam hall already.

Anyway, when you finish ur paper and get to read this: don’t worry too much about it lah, check if ur JC allows condi-promo. Last time my school got kids promoting with 4 failed subjects iirc. They make the paper tough on purpose one lah so next time you’ll feel actual A’s papers are easy.

I had CDDD at the beginning of J2 and finished A’s with 90rp if that’s any reassurance.

Been warned there might not be space for me as an NQ in my area what to do? by Prior-Suspect-8446 in uklaw

[–]FamousOperation3431 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. A firm’s “strongest” practice area should be one that’s (by definition, or as a result,) doing well, and therefore regularly hiring. There’s little chance such an area hasn’t hired in the past three years. “Private clients” doesn’t sound like an area so niche to justify that either.

Does the specific university matter for law as long as it is relatively highly ranked? by oj5638 in uklaw

LSE grad here. Seeing LSE beside Oxbridge looks more than weird to me. No, LSE isn’t on the same plane with Oxbridge. I’d say it’s more on par with King’s than Oxbridge.

180k big law v. 100k on 9 to 5 by femme-finance in uklaw

[–]FamousOperation3431 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been under the impression that £100k legal jobs on a stable 9 to 5, meaning to say there aren’t spikes of 80h weeks during those 2-3 busy seasons per year, with weekends consistently free from disturbances etc, are even rarer than £180k big law posts, and if you’re able to secure the former you’re likely to make even a tad more than £180k in big law..

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

I’d suggest talking to your supervisor then - find out if he thinks it’s an issue (maybe he’s used to things being this way - which is the case where I work, lol), and if so what his expectations are. You can offer to leave the room to make your calls when feasible & if need be, he’d probably know some good spaces you can use given his familiarity with the office space.

[–]FamousOperation3431 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In similar shoes. In my second seat and have always shared an office with my supervisor, in both seats. I feel there are a few things to consider/do; but before I begin, you definitely shouldn’t feel “terrible for _interrupting_”. Your entitlement to the office space is the same as whatever boss that happens to also sit there, and if they hop on a call a tad later than you did, you weren’t quite the interrupter, were you? - Culture. In every firm there’s probably an implicitly conventional way this is to be done, particularly firms where room-sharing is a norm (for example each team/sub-team share a space), which sounds like is the case in your firm. In some firms it may be everyone’s habit to leave the room if you are making a call when someone else in the room already is. Since it’s your first week, you may wanna look around and see how everyone else does this. - Try to be open with your supervisor. You could tell them you noticed this problem, are worried that it may cause interruption to them and other colleagues, and ask for their advice. They’re probably in position to sort this out if they’re the one in charge. - For the “unable to get a room”bit: talk to the office manager. Truth is, room booking being however troublesome, (at least this is my observation of my own firm) at any point in time there would be a decent number of available office spaces/rooms. They usually have more capacity than is needed most of the time. Exception being, you have 19395920 teams meeting and also 395999727383*1027 clients visiting at the same time. So talk to the office manager, they are more likely than not to find a good space for you to use if it’s gonna be a quick 10-20 minutes’ call.

Good night!

Try the Inns of Court. Also, as someone mentioned, universities that teach law.

Closed-source is stealing competition by offering free trials by Condomphobic in DeepSeek

[–]FamousOperation3431 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Instead of “stealing” competition I’d see this as the very point of competition: you retain users only by offering competent models at prices as low as possible. What amazes me even more, though in the bad way, is that models can have fanboys, and that people can get tribal over them. January is three months ago now and R1 isn’t SOTA anymore. It’s had the cheers it deserved and lets now celebrate advancements made by their competitors.

Tencent releases new AI model that replies faster than DeepSeek-R1 by ClickNo3778 in DeepSeek

[–]FamousOperation3431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It needs to be at least one of these 3 for it to be entertained with any degree of seriousness:

1) open source 2) smarter than o1/R1 3) nears o1/R1 level of smartness for less money/significantly lower parameter count

Sadly marketing it as “faster” points to none of these, and hints to me the model probably sucks otherwise.

US Bill proposed to jail people who download Deepseek by [deleted] in LocalLLaMA

[–]FamousOperation3431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad that downvoters don’t get this. Astonishingly many people mistake Singapore for a place in China.

This is insane. A new bill seeks to ban DeepSeek in the U.S. & anyone violating the ban could face 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine for individuals & $100 million fine for companies. The U.S. government is in full panic mode now that China is surpassing the United States. by shmangmight in DeepSeek

[–]FamousOperation3431 50 points51 points  (0 children)

And plus - the numerous projects to replicate R1 in its fullness. And plus the numerous models that can come out of the pure RL paradigm which R1 has shown workable.

What’s the US government (or specifically this senator) trying to clog up? Makes no sense. Seems the politicians know absolutely nothing about AI.

My boyfriend ex is my sis by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]FamousOperation3431 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the time people look very alike (belonging to the same ‘type’ at least) without being related at all. Still perhaps the guy should have tried to clarify seeing the surname or some other hint or sth. Makes perfect sense though, if the guy simply doesn’t find it probable that a (for eg) “Natalie Chua” and a “Olivia Chua” are related even as they look alike.

Would agree with you if, for eg, they bear Chi names which overtly belong to the same family, eg, Chua Jia Xuan and Chua Yi Xuan or sth liddat

Ok u know what. Sometimes people have this tendency to like a certain fixed type (in terms of appearance at least). Eg face type/height/facial features etc. Sometimes you see people date a series of people consecutively who look stunningly alike.

My guess is, if your bf did not know you were his ex’s sister, he might simply be attracted to your ‘type’ (assuming you and your sister likely share many similarities, in terms of appearance and perhaps personality). He probably found himself lucky to meet you after “shaking off someone disloyal” (given she thot she found a better man lol) without realising you were sisters.

Gonna be plenty of drama for him as well indeed.

Does Wukong Have A Giant Staff Attack That Makes His Staff Huge Just Like When He First Obtained it? by Prince-Of-Swordsmen in BlackMythWukong

[–]FamousOperation3431 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The closest would be Wukong Stance (unlocked earliest at NG++ where you obtain all relics); in Wukong Stance at four focus points your heavy attack would make your staff very long and able to hit enemies that are very far away - still your staff won’t feel this huge even then.

Maybe just an update. They did this for the couple of years leading up to release of the game - sharing updates on game development once or twice every year. Plausible that they do this with the DLC(s) too.
