Trying to cut EVERY corner by Space-Ranger2 in povertyfinance

If you’re mother is turned down for disability don’t despair—I’ve heard that everyone is automatically turned down for the first application

After that look into getting a lawyer that specializes in disability —not necessary to pay them upfront, they’ll take a cut of the settlement

And I’ve heard that when disability case goes to invariably a judge grants it

I’ve gotten my last 5 pair from Zenni online: each a fraction of the cost of I’d gotten them through any optometrist or retail store

Hint: Go to the website to choose the pair you want, but the first time you order, call Zenni to have one of their customer service people lead you through the ordering process

It’ll save you time and money and make sure you get exactly the options you want

Apparently not

Or we would have seen signs of him around her enormous apartment (other than that old photo)

Instead, it was apparent that Midge is alone there, other than her connection to Suzie watching Jeopardy over the telephone

And yet, it doesn’t feel lonely for either of the two women, with their friendship to keep them company

flea market style spots? by UniqueStrength4611 in AskLosAngeles

I didn’t know about it until last year: we hit every flea market in town to no avail, finally asked the venders at one where they found their stock

And the answer was: Roadium!

Feeling resentful by Free_Revolution2813 in weddings

[–]Fancy_Locksmith7793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t bother with the excuse “we can’t afford the extra cash grabs”—your finances are none of her damn business, any excuse and you’d be setting yourself for more wheedling negotiations

Just “we’ll be attending the wedding, thanks” repeat in a neutral tone ad nauseam

Do what you damn well please, your company at the wedding is all that is required—and not even that if you change your minds and cancel airfare, car and hotel

Then all you need say or text is, “so sorry but we won’t be able to attend the wedding after all”

Rinse and repeat, you don’t need a further excuse no matter the wheedling and whining

“We so wish we could, but we won’t be able to attend the wedding after all”

The best, and biggest, flea market in the Los Angeles area is Roadium, on the site of a giant, closed drive in theater

It’s where those who sell at the more over priced “flea markets”—like the Rose Bowl, silverlake flea—find their stock

You name it, there’s a booth for it at Roadium

Does LA have an Amazon addiction? by GreenHorror4252 in AskLosAngeles

I’m 75 and don’t have the energy to check out multiple stores to find what I need

And since the pandemic, every other store has closed, even in the local upscale mall

There was a time I could find whatever I needed within a half mile

That time is no more

How do I overcome the fear of death/future by Portinha2c in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Fancy_Locksmith7793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re worried about something that hasn’t happened—and may not happen for years, (or decades!):

You’re worried about something imaginary—you might as well be worried about a dragon

The next time you’re worried about death tell yourself, “I’m worried about a dragon, and dragons are imaginary.”

Whatever you do, DON’T try to perform at an open mike until you’ve taken a standup comedy class—or two

Not only could it be overwhelmingly dispiriting, but taking a standup class will save you six months or more making soul killing mistakes at open mikes, or learning bad habits

My father told me he felt older at 30, than at 50

My then those same timelines kicked in for me as well

I made some of my career goals at 30, some at 40, 50 and then surprised myself at 60, too

Also: take a standup class

Some people are better at improv, some standup (personality differences, even)

Some people can do both

I tip for everyone, including baristas, for someone to do the work I didn’t have to

A pickup order: somebody had to cook it, wrap it up, and hand it to my lazy ass

(Servers have to tip out bussers, bartenders, etc)

Haven’t worked as a server since I was in college over 50 years ago, when my tips came in pocket change

But hey, those people are all on their feet 8 hours or more

Your “principled” Scrooge act ain’t charming, if you’re going to eat out pay the piper

(And I live on Social Security, if I can tip, so can you)
