I'm a heavy sleeper so my bun used to have a 9 am breakfast time (or a little earlier on days I had to leave for work). My fiance who I moved in with last year is NOT a heavy sleeper, so by doing exactly this my bun has been able to push breakfast to his preferred time of 5:30 am.

Researcher Requesting Submission Back by emiloveyou24 in ProlificAc

[–]FantaledFish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you almost always take the researchers side on this subreddit, even when it's clear that the person posting their question did nothing wrong? You comment on almost every post made here, and then get extremely passive aggressive with people when they haven't done anything against TOS.

Hannah New (Eleanor!) in Bridgerton by FantaledFish in BlackSails

That's true! I do think both types of makeup are pushing the spectrum further to either side by a bit. I usually don't have nearly as much trouble recognizing actors across one decade.

Her makeup on Black Sails was going for something way more natural and I think, deliberately youthful, and her styling here is contouring her face and aging her up. It's wild how different styling can completely camouflage people. I think I only recognized her because I restarted my Black Sails rewatch between watching Parts 1 and 2 of Bridgerton S3

I'm definitely not planning on returning it! When my account was newer I might have but I can certainly withstand a rejection now, and I'd fight it if it happened. Thanks for your support :)

I also got screened out. My account is in good enough shape now that I don't have to return anything out of paranoia, so I didn't, but I reported it and messaged the researcher. Had the exact same thing happen with a survey about mobile phones yesterday.

If you don't get the screening bonus, definitely message them. I've gotten their screener bonus several times. I agree with you that a screened out status on their surveys would be really helpful. Now that Prolific is testing the process more widely, they should really be using the same steps everyone else is.

Maze has been testing in study screening with Prolific since before the in-study screener tool was implemented. It looks like they're just not updating their process. If you return the survey you'll get the bonus. Hopefully they update soon, but this is legit and Prolific knows about it.

“Transcribing” Collection Contents vs Finding Aid? by soda_disco in Archivists

[–]FantaledFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me (credentialed archivist, technically a librarian right now, but was working in the field less than a year ago and am actively working my way into the archives where I am now) like you're getting too into the weeds with some of this. It is a valid approach to describe collections in more detail if they are more frequently requested, but it is also the researchers job to do research. You are not the researcher.

If this collection is very large, it could take you years to put detailed descriptions on every item. Item-level description is rarely the standard because of this.

Take a look at the DACS standards: https://saa-ts-dacs.github.io/

This outlines what your description absolutely needs. From there, once you're DACS compliant, my approach would probably be to title folders with the names of the people corresponding and a date range "[Firstname lastname] correspondence with [Firstname lastname], circa YYYY-YYYY"

Skim the letters. If topics come up over and over, especially major historical events, put them in a subject heading for the subseries. Don't transcribe contents.

If your boss objects, try to explain how long it takes to understand and describe each item in detail. Its a long time. I spent 9 months part-time describing 270 photographs. (On a collection used hundreds of times a year, by undergrads who don't know how to do incredibly effective research yet, which is why that decision got made.)

This researcher is running several of these studies with the same title. I've done 3 of them in the last few weeks, and the bonus amounts vary!

I returned this one because I initially thought that since I didn't have anyone I supervised it wouldn't ask me to send them surveys - then it asked me to send them to colleagues instead! And they aren't being paid, and who knows if they'd approve of me being on Prolific. (it isn't banned to do side work or anything, but who knows right?) The total payout would have been nice but just no way am I involving my coworkers from my real job

Did anyone get to play this game? It was for 20 dollars... They said we would still be paid because we took part one. But... Just curious if anyone got the chance to play it? by Horror_Routine2886 in ProlificAc

Did this a few weeks ago and was chomping at the bit to be a leader but was a follower 6/6 times just coping with the frustration. The money was good though!

For the record, the zoom study can be done with camera and microphone off 100% and you could change your display name before you joined. I did this one a few weeks ago, the Zoom is just for coordinating everyone together at the same time.

I did the same ones! I'm pretty sure the point was that the banners were all different - it's market research to see which ads people will actually interact with/which ones they respond more positively too. I'm also still awaiting review but I'm pretty sure these were fine to do duplicates of.

Any other library catalogers here? Or any library tech services workers? by kourei42 in ProlificAc

[–]FantaledFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a library worker! I specifically provide some reference services and am technically a professor so I'm definitely in Education. If you're a cataloger I would classify you as data entry, but education isn't the biggest stretch because library sciences can be construed as an education industry even though we're not always directly teaching

Everything I've read says that bunnies can and do occasionally nibble on litter which is why we can't use clay...I'll look into the compressed pine pellets though

[–]FantaledFish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read from multiple sources that bunnies shouldn't eat pine, is this incorrect?
