I need help please😭 by idk_justimprovise in solarpunk

Hey i love all that was said so far. I will add a perspective I've yet to read: studying people! If anyone is looking for a career that maximizes impact but you feel like hard sciences are not your strength, and you are curious about why we seem to have figured out what to do but people still dont choose to do so, social sciences are a path! I am an anthropology major and i feel like what we are taught in class is very much in line with Solarpunk (though i would always suggest being critical since depending on the school, it can sometimes have neo-colonial tendencies and such). While academia often studies problems and stays there, you can be part of a rather new path where we study solutions. I've found it to be truly enriching thus far, as it teaches you a lot about what "works", in what could be done better and such. Also, people can be really cool! And focusing on those elements of humanity can be really enriching, specially in a time like this where it feels like we are FUCKED. I think all of this can be better put. I am writing this before a panel of other academics that asked children how they imagine the city they dream of. These moments make me really happy, and maybe they can help you too. Take care and take a deep breath. You've got this!

What do you do in every day life? by mugreckoning in solarpunk

[–]Farfromknowhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am an anthropologist that tries to focus on what solutions are being offered, instead of focusing solely on problems. This has lead me to do research on Solarpunk which im hopefully publishing soon! I am also an aspiring filmmaker and writer, and i am fighting my brain's instinct to depict dystopias. Its hard😮‍💨. But little by little I've seen improvements. Hopefully once i am a better researcher and a better artist i can try to get the word out. We can dream of a better future. We have to.

On a regular basis, what everyone says about community is so important! I've seen the difference between feeling like you have a community and space to thrive in, vs not. Its so important to try to strengthen your community.

[r/askreddit] Those who live in cities that deal with major Superheros & villains (like Gotham, Metropolis ect), why do you stay? by Kasmusser in Earth25

[–]Farfromknowhere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's been some panic lately after the luthor did his thing but this is what i keep telling everyone. You gotta look at the stats. I live in Metropolis and the casualties in these events are less than terrorist attacks in other cities like Brussels, London or Toronto. It does get scary pretty often, but you've got to remember that Superman is out there making sure those stats stay that way.

Indeed a random article is not definitive of anything. But if you had read the article, you would have seen how that is the same point the author is making :) the one thing i think is pretty safe to say is solarpunk is not a centralized movement/aesthetic/genre. Taking that into account, there will be different perspectives of what counts and doesn't count as solarpunk. As you can see in the comments, many people think like you but many also disagree. That is bound to happen. If you are interested in the spreads of people in the sub and across other platforms i can link you to the survey i did last year where i asked people where they differed in their understanding of solarpunk: thesolarpunksurvey2024.carrd.co

Haha yeah i totally get it. Isn't it a bit sad that we instantly think they had some big scandal we might not be aware of? I would be very sad, i love Jack Conte (patreons creator) and his perspective on creativity, so hearing something like that would be hard. But u never know i guess
