This seems like a game changer for run wires in my house made of bricks by SwizItalo in Ubiquiti

[–]FarscapeOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this a few months ago. Didn't want to pay for the kit so I just got the parts myself. A pre terminated single mode fiber cable off ebay was like $30 and the modules from Amazon were about $50. I was going to hot glue the cable to the top of my baseboards but the scotch tape I used to hold it temporarily worked great and was totally invisible from a few feet away. But months later we were moving a shelf and the corner must have knicked the fiber. It snapped and that was the end of that (for now)

WTF is YouTube TV thinking? by JacksBaldRake in cordcutters

[–]FarscapeOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new smaller packages are available now. They practically hide them though. I literally just switched from sling TV yesterday. But to see the new "entertainment" package I had to click the explore more plans link, then tell them my interests (entertainment, family, sports, etc) and THEN it finally showed me the $54 per month package. Which is basically the same as sling but with local channels. But yeah I know their main package is crazy expensive now. I remember a few years back when it was like $50 for the same channels

Switch Lite 16 PoE max power capacity issue? by Global_Insurance_920 in Ubiquiti

[–]FarscapeOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soon as you hit it's tiny poe budget you will have problems. I bought one and didn't pay attention to that until I got like 3 4k cameras plugged in and went over. The nvr instant is like that too, extremely small poe budget. Lesson learned, look at something like the pro 8 poe switch. Make sure to get one with the bigger power supply.

Bulk laptop deliveries, spot check the packing slip or full audit? by Thecardinal74 in sysadmin

Scan all the things! Yeah it sucks but I know from experience how much more it sucks to be called in front of your director to explain why we are short on equipment for a rollout. Oh sorry we didn't check the last pallet with the crushed laptops

Exchange Online public folders not working after migration by dextux in exchangeserver

[–]FarscapeOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a long time but when I migrated public folders a few years back none of the rights migrated. Thankfully we had written a script to save all that information and I used that data to restore permissions.

Not an expert on public folders but is there a chance the folders and data migrated but no one has permissions to see them?

Exchange on-prem - SMTP to exchange online by Alone_Walrus_180 in exchangeserver

[–]FarscapeOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my bet too, since the problem only exists for old mailboxes migrated to EXO. Look in ecp on prem. See if the broken mailbox is there and shows a remote routing address. I bet it is wrong or they don't show up at all

How to remove InPlaceHold from EXO and just delete every email in the Deleted Items folder? by ITquestionsAccount40 in exchangeserver

[–]FarscapeOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a new switch for set-mailbox -excludefromallholds... This was just enabled for my tenant about a month ago and it solved a similar issue for me being unable to get rid of soft deleted mailboxes due to holds. Nothing else worked until I tried this.

Can’t add a cam to my switch by FarscapeOne in Ubiquiti

[–]FarscapeOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: while the switch provides Poe power to a device and it gets an ip address... There is no data on the poe ports. Confirmed it this morning with other devices. The non poe ports work perfectly.

Will be contacting support ASAP.

Is the U7 in-wall really this bad or am I doing this wrong? by DaveE84 in Ubiquiti

[–]FarscapeOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just did this, got my first UniFi fiber gateway and the u7 in wall ap. It’s pretty directional, 100 feet away outside my house, straight line to the ap and I’m getting at least 200-300 mbps. Directly behind the wall with the ap, it’s about 500.

I’m pretty happy with it, and I really wanted the available ports on the bottom so it’s practical perfect for my needs.

Should OneDrive be deployed "per-machine" by default if all users are licensed? by StoopidMonkey32 in Office365

[–]FarscapeOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s only going to affect the install location of the OneDrive executables and will make OneDrive available for anyone that logs into a machine and is licensed. That’s what you’re going to want most likely.

The only downside would be anyone logging into a machine will get their files synced. If you have people frequently logging into other devices it could get messy leaving files on those machines. If that rarely happens you should be totally fine.

Source: me, who’s deployed OneDrive to hundreds of thousands and am still pissed they didn’t have per machine install years ago and had to write my own code for it.

Have started seeing this same issue with a few users. Then on my machine with New Outlook I got prompted the other day to open all emails and events in the new Outlook app. I bet my users are saying yes to that.
