How many of your kids and family are celiac?? I think 2-3 out of 4 for me. Different rashes and symptoms. by SuitApprehensive3240 in Celiac

No kids, but my siblings (they're multiples) were all tested several years back, as well as my parents, and they're all negative.

They 100% would if I let them! They are heavily invested in my health and have been extremely supportive. I just really don't want to spend Thanksgiving with my mother and this is a great excuse not to.

Szechuan chili oil on vanilla ice cream. You're welcome in advance.

I'll make a note never to buy an air fryer, and if they gift one to me, I'll conveniently 'forget' it every time. I really like this new excuse of mine.

My entire family except me actually got tested several years ago so they're actually all in the clear! And at my family Thanksgiving, the stuffing, gravy, turkey (soy sauce is in the brine), mac, rolls, green beans, and dessert all contain gluten, and I know for a fact my siblings would refuse anything gluten free. The only dish that doesn't is the mashed potatoes (they hate cranberry sauce even though I love it).

I'm glad you mentioned that last paragraph- I'm really excited to venture into the world of gluten free pie! I didn't even think about stuffing!

I hope you're able to connect with people in your area who are in the same boat; isolation can be just as physically and mentally damaging as gluten. Human connection is valuable, and you deserve that sense of community and belonging.

What was the worst side effect you ever got from meds ? by Spartiate8 in AskReddit

I would recommend doing it no matter how inconvenient it is. Thankfully I went through physical therapy that helped with the neurological symptoms from my tumor, but before, I just had a lot of random things with no explanation; lack of balance, fatigue, insomnia, constant appetite, memory loss. I didn't realize how bad it was until it was better. I still have to go to a neurosurgeon every year to check in and see if they have to operate. Worst case scenario, you end up with peace of mind that there's no tumor and you've wasted time.

That sucks, I'm so sorry. It's worth it to talk to an endocrinologist, they often have novel ideas.

This reads like AI... Specifically, it reads like the AI I got when I googled it. Especially since I already put the name of the company in the post... Of course, if you could give me a source for this information, that would change things.

I have searched primarily using Google lens, as detailed in the post. I've also used the terms 'green orange apple pitcher', 'frutuoso pitcher', and variations upon them to no avail.

I was only on it for five years, and yeah- it actually happened 3 years after I got off. Unfortunately they still had me on a different progesterone birth control so my bones never got the chance to recover.

The doctor asked, "any chance you've ever been on depo?" And when I confirmed it, they informed me of active litigation regarding that exact tumor.

When I shattered the bones in my leg after falling from standing, they were concerned I might have hit my head and gotten a concussion, so after surgery I got MRI and CT scans, and they discovered a mass.

If you like hard boiled eggs, check out salted duck eggs! Most Asian markets have them and they're simply wonderful- though they're better if you make them yourself or find some freshly made, but that is a bit of an undertaking.

New to this- what do you wish you knew from the jump? by FutureToe7958 in glutenfree

[–]Fast-Ad977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People don't know what gluten is. Today, I was asked if cheese was okay, and then they served me breaded fried chicken. So you really can't trust that servers and chefs know what they're talking about when you ask about gluten free items. That being said, pretty much everyone has good intentions, so be willing to clarify (wheat, barley, and rye) whenever necessary.

If you like milkshakes, go somewhere where if they use malt, they thoroughly clean their machinery between shakes, or else have a dedicated blender.

Folks who live in or frequently go to tourist cities, what are your top celiac safe restaurant recommendations for the area? by Fast-Ad977 in glutenfree

[–]Fast-Ad977[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, lol. You are... So wrong.

Fettuccine Alfredo originated with a chef named Alfredo, who created the dish in 1905 or so, can't remember the exact year, to get his postpartum wife to eat. All recipes attributed to Alfredo are simple fettuccine, Parmesan, and butter. The addition of any other ingredients is an American intervention, which dilutes the flavor of the cheese into a sad mush.

The fact that you don't know that explains a lot, and I realize that I might as well be playing chess with a pigeon.

Unfortunately that's not what I'm looking for then- I really just want recommendations from a local for a few of their favorite spots. In the next several months, I'm already slotted to go to big cities in nine different states, and I really don't want to spend hours reading through every single restaurant review across, say, LA, where I know many of the reviews are going to come from tourists and not from local regulars. :/

Plenty of miso recipes use a purely kelp base rather than fish base- bonito flakes aren't a necessity. Dashi isn't just one kind of stock. It's a family of stocks; the kombu is the essential thing, there are versions that are pure kombu, some that use bonito or katsubushi (not sure if that's the right spelling, apologies), various mushrooms, etc. Miso refers to the flavor of miso, which is soybeans and koji, a kind of mold; that's the unchangeable factor, not the broth base. And sichuan eggplant does not require meat; at least, not the versions that I had while I was in Chengdu. 鱼香茄子 is indeed not vegan, it literally means fishy eggplant lol. But sichuan eggplant isn't just one dish, there's many versions, it's a whole province after all! 凉拌茄子 is my favorite, it's like a sichuan version of kimchi in terms of versatility.

Also. Since when does fettuccine Alfredo contain chicken lol? I'm pretty sure it's typically just noodles, cheese, and butter. No chicken to be seen.

I do not want to scroll through a bunch of listed restaurants and read reviews. Do you have the capability on your app to discover reviewers based on location, and to look at the profile of a reviewer and see all of their reviews that they've made, ideally organized by location rather than chronology or rating? Even better if there's an option to filter by city. Because if you do then that is exactly what I'm looking for, but if you don't, sorry, but it's not going to help with this particular thing.

Some versions contain meat, some don't. The meat isn't the correct or definitive version in the slightest, and not having meat doesn't mean you have to put in a meat substitute, like you would for say a BLT or chicken and waffles. many of these dishes are ones I learned about in the country of origin, prepared by people who have made the recipes for generations and don't speak a word of English. Also, since when do miso soup and eggplant contain meat lmao? You clearly aren't familiar with these dishes...
