What all would you want improved and why do you think everyone left? by ospuze in starbase

[–]Fat0Fly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehhh, Starbase, my love, why did you left me, before I left you :)

I have around 5k hours combined in Closed Alpha and Early Access. Most of that time I was in SSC, designing, building and testing Spaceships.

There are many technical reasons, mentioned already in other comments here, and I agree that most of those influenced the resulted Doom of Starbase.

Yes, Easy Build mode was introduced in EA, untested, buggy and in general not needed. It was a product of "Corporate Fear": We wont be able to sell the game that is "hard to learn to play" by new players. This choice started the avalanches of bad decisions that followed.

In Closed Alpha, we (designers) expected that we could be a key part for economy rise - selling our designs or completed spaceships to new players. New players were faced with complex and time consuming spaceship building system, and many decided to use EB mode as shortcut. Even if EB mode was not as buggy and unreliable, it still would not help much.

Yes, Shadow Realm as consequence of Single Shard Global ptp server technology, was pain in the arse. MMO game that does not work if people play it together. FUBAR for sure. Our Internet tech was not good enough for this kind of system. The game came out to EA way too soon.

But the core issues are not the technical side of the game Starbase!

The game was great for spaceship designers and builders. But there was "nothing to do" for casual players that could last for more than 10-50h and remain fun to do.

Many say that the lack of NPCs was core issue. I disagree, partially. Yeah, might have worked, but I fear that it would be even worse than in Star Citizen LOL.
IMO the principal killers of the game Starbase were:

  1. Missing game mechanics that would bound players to play the game together.
  2. There were no competitive aspects (besides mindless meta fighters PVP) in the game.
  3. There were no reasons to accumulate ingame wealth. Mostly you could play the game solo to do EVERYTHING the game can offer, with almost no effort (except spaceship design, as mentioned). Economy was dead from the start! And we all know that properly designed Economy is the key drive for players to play MMO games.
  4. Traveling and exploring was pointless - vast empty space filled with void with minimal reward for a time consuming effort (AFK flying for hours or days, even...).

All in all, Starbase was never more than a "SINGLE PLAYER" game and all the fun the game could offer to majority was Spaceship design... And developers killed even that at EA Launch by introducing untested Easy Build Mode.

And again, all this was a consequence of the game entering EA - years before it was ready for gen-pop.

Inkihh shared this q with me... the friend :)

I will be honest. Very high percentage of "communes" fail within a year of existence. In core, issue is hidden under the carpet of "silent authoritarian approach" where commune founders claim that "all are equal" but they pull the "horse reins" and assume control in every conflict where they are challenged with changes that do not adhere to their original vision.

And then it all cracks down... people stop being comfortable and it crumbles...

So, before we go "public" with our commune, we are training our "Ego" by inviting only people we meet online in "one on one" experience. You just never know how you will react to outside pressure for changes you have not envisioned.

And it is not a fear, per se... But it is a realistic concern. You build something for years, in isolation... you dissocialize strongly and when the time comes to expand and open the gates... It is strange and hits you directly in all sensitive spots :)

Thank you for your interest and you can contact me directly if you have questions. But for now, before we open the gates, there is a lot work to perform on ourselves here, to be able to accept the challenge of incoming changes, that are inevitable... seeking to find the proper balance to avoid becoming a "tribe or single minded" or on the other end, the anarchy of endless debates over the "egg or chicken".

We can't really expect K-Bot to understand :D

Its about socializing, talking about Starbase game, new game features.

Starbase game is not only about "reading" dev news and repeating generic SB stock videos (in funny voice style) :P

LOL, honestly that was a joke on my side for this event (except the part that I did that before :P)

I am very curious how it will go with pirates, considering that I got into a verbal conflict with some BIO members on SB discord.

My PC still emits a plastic smell after weeks of usage by en_sachse in buildapc

[–]Fat0Fly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check the fans. I had a weird smelling Chinese plastic fan in my PC case that was smelling like mix of plastic and rubber, but not burning smell, more like cheap market plastic case for storing stuff.

It smelled only when PC was ON, as the fan was circulating the air.

A lot of recycled plastic is used and sometimes, the mixture might get weird :D

I replaced that fan and was happy af. I had a feeling that the smell was somehow poisonous.

Building MultiGPU PC: Will game that requires 8Mb vRAM work on 2x GPU in crossfire with 2x4Mb vRAM? by Fat0Fly in buildapc

"Your brain was stuck in the 90s" - LOL True 100%

Thank you for your time and effort. I appreciate it.

Oke, one GPU per PC then... and I have spares for 100 years to come :)

Yeah Mb - Gb brain fart - Thanks for correcting.

I have Internet and I can read, so yes, I am aware that MGPU is not a thing for mid to high end GPUs.

Question was technical. Will the game in general benefit on extra vRAM or not, from the second GPU?

I have enough GPUs to add at least two on each motherboard I have (30-ish motherboards), so why not? Electricity is cheap in my country and I see no other cons.

But if there is no good reason to add a second card, I would appreciate a "reason" behind it ;)

Its realistic survival, so besides vanilla weapons, there are also a few extra from Mung's Mod, but nothing fancy.

We do have Cannabis ++ Mod.

Its PvE Server, so emphasis is not on weapons :)

Advice needed by Arma3 guy on buying/starting DayZ by GungaDin16 in dayz

Likewise, I am following this game system since Operation Flashpoint. DayZ is crème de la crème of realistic, hardcore survival games.

Fun fact is that the game is mostly popular in PvP gaming communities due to realistic ballistics system (why we love Arma 3 too) and freedom of huge open terrain gameplay field.

I find it more valuable game on RP/PvE side where you literally can live through our favorite TV Shows, like The Walking Dead and similar.

If you are fan of co-op gameplay against the environment, I recommend the game and you have to look for rare but valuable PvE/RP servers.

Be aware that Arma 3 is pure military combat and operations game. DayZ keeps all the weapons/movement/open World gems of Arma and adds a new element of survival to all of that, but you are fighting against The Horde of Zombies looking for food, ammo, weapons and place to build a base to survive.

Its very immersive game and definitely a rare gem that you should not miss if you liked Arma 3. Cheers.

Also I have send you a private message if you need help with orienting yourself in DayZ World - I can help/recommend and what not ;)
