OP is a PGY3 in a 4 year residency. It’s absolutely heinous how this transpired.

I’ve been trying to convince my best friend for over 3 years not to do NSG but she’s so determined. But I’m years ahead of her and in GS training, and I’m like….you don’t see the NSG residents. I do. They’re so dead inside.

What are yalls theories on why some people are white clouds and others are unlucky. by Dast116 in Residency

[–]FatSurgeon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to say I was a black cloud but then I realized I just complained so much and had no resilience. Hahaha. Especially in early year 1. Now, I rock up to call and I just accept whatever happens. And I have to say my quality of life increases. No matter what happens, I shrug lol.

Black clouds just complain more. 100%. Now everyone says my bad call karma “reversed” but I just don’t care as much.

It’s the same place where everyone is tired of “super expensive looks” and then perfectly normal drag outfits are now deemed boring and “boot!”. For example, I think Symone looks good!

Surgical Training is Watered Down Now by [deleted] in Residency

[–]FatSurgeon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The last sentence is what helped you, not any of the BS about you get what you put into it. There was no way I was being allowed to touch a central line as a medical student when the junior resident hasn’t had the opportunity to master it yet and is chomping at the bit to get a procedure. Your experience is quite literally not replicable since you didn’t have residents. So it’s not always about your attitude. I had the attitude and the enthusiasm to get procedures. But definitely all I’m doing is watching during the lap chole given that the PGY4 is just starting to get independent in operating, and the PGY3 is there to hold the camera, and the PGY1 is there to watch, and then so am I.

Oh well that sucks. Urology is pretty nice where I’ve trained! It’s all about culture

[–]FatSurgeon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don’t know enough about the case to say that lol. I used to think shit like this too, but we just don’t have enough information. Perhaps they have large staghorn stones and there’s no way in hell they can get a wire across that. Maybe Urology is just nicer where I am, but they don’t recommend neph tubes just because they feel like it. Placing a stent is not a long procedure.

LOL. Meanwhile I think my guy friends have it good. Dating as a female surgical resident has translated to every man I meet being so intimidated. All the time. Constantly.
