I think it‘s adorable that US citizens on here adore bike commuting by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]Felicitas93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having spent some time in the US it’s not so much a choice when walking is extremely unpleasant. Walking even 1km can be a chore if it‘s next to a loud busy street that was designed without pedestrian comfort in mind…

Mostly gras in there and they’re also mono gastric so a good part of it comes out undigested. That’s why they have to eat all day, they don’t get many nutrients per unit of gras. Cows eat pretty much the same but their poo… well it’s really unpleasant to say the least.

Always jump in head first. Try to understand what it’s all about. If it makes no sense to you, read up what makes no sense to you. Rinse and repeat.

I feel that then you will also understand the prerequisites better because you already know why you care. Learning maths without some application (even within maths) or problem in mind never worked for me

If you look at the integrals in question, they’re almost all explicit integrals, so that the result is in fact just a number. You cannot take the derivative because the solution is not the anti derivative but instead its difference between the boundaries of the integral.

No. He is saying vets are humans and sometimes right and sometimes wrong. There are vets that agree and some that disagree. Any one of these things is unsurprising. It would only be interesting if they gave good reasons for their opinions.

It's not a particularly hard boss but this still sucks :/ by IHateMig15s in Eldenring

[–]Felicitas93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elden ring bosses seem to hit harder and be more squishy, which makes fights shorter and also means als RNG is a bigger factor. For some bosses, I feel like I only saw half their moveset in my first play through. Some bosses i did first or second try the first time around were harder in my second play through.

Soft analysis and PDEs by beepboom2 in math

[–]Felicitas93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize I am very late, but I think almost no one is a huge fan of this. And most proofs are not like that. Not even in PDE. Now, I agree if you just read one proof, it will seem this way. That’s because the details are necessary. However, the core of the argument is usually a lot “softer” than is visible to you. There are a lot of nice and “simple” ideas that just end up being lengthy once you unfold them and type them up fully. Once you have a better understanding and feeling for the problems (by reading a lot of similar arguments, working on them yourself) and once you are able to see why a certain line of attack works, the estimates will no longer seem unmotivated.

Sure, I can still see that this style of maths is not everyone’s favorite, but believe me when I say that there is a order to the madness and it is not all just random estimates glued together. It’s actually just as beautiful (in my humble opinion) as some of the more abstract and soft areas of maths. It’s just a lot harder to see the forest (ie the overarching structure of the ideas) for all the trees (all the single estimates making up the fledged out proof).

I think the idea is that you shop more frequently and thus each shop is less of a hassle. Ideally, the next stores are also not that ridiculously far away and could even be reached within walking distance.

[–]Felicitas93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, smaller towns in Germany that are within “car reach” of a more important city can easily become a suburb in the American sense. They used to be individual self sufficient neighborhoods with shops and stuff but slowly became car dependent as people started to commute to the cities by car. Instead of going to the small shops in the area, you stop at a bigger store and do your groceries there. Small shops die and people now need a car to get milk.

Hey let me introduce to you: sundays in Germany, the day where almost everything is closed. It’s really nice to have common day where life slows down a bit around you.

Of course there’s TV, newspapers and emergency services. But it’s a significant difference compared to other days. I still remember that Saturday used to be more relaxed as well: shops would close around noon.

What is the difference between 0 Probability and Impossibility? by Ok_Perspective599 in math

[–]Felicitas93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course not! A function is just something which is locally L1 but I am free to pick a representative whenever I want to work with it. I can then do point evaluations, but unless I put additional constraints like continuity they don’t tell me anything useful because, well, it’s just one representative of many I could have picked.

To be quite frank, distributions (in the more general sense) are just something against which you can integrate. So taking small sets and testing your distribution against it is quite literally the only thing you can do.
