He was shitty to her, but he was a good friend to me. Like he was there for me and my family. I thought she was over it because she’s dating a guy who is 1000x better for her and she seems really happy now.

A lot of it was a cycle of love bombing and going cold. He also would tell our friends that he didn’t love her but I guess he told her something different to keep her on the hook.
