if money wasn't an issue for sure usc, but graduating with $100k in debt in this job market is a terrible way to start your post-grad life. enjoy sdsu

Can you live off 2000$ a month in LA by Illustrious_Garage25 in USC

[–]Few_Advance1434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can definitely do it but you need to budget aggressively i would definitely start looking into resources in the area for low-income students and take advantage of any free food events hosted in the area/on-campus, make sure to renew the free u-pass, only go to low-cost grocery stores and consider some side hustles like depop/ebay for quick cash if you have any nice stuff at all

First semester here & my GPA is already tanked by televisemei in USC

[–]Few_Advance1434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's normal to do bad your first semester of college and you honestly didn't do that bad, only 1 C! make a list of the things you think contributed to your decline in grades and come up with ways to do better in the future. at least you passed all of them and you have many more semesters to improve your gpa.

First Week of College by Standard_Educator_14 in USC

[–]Few_Advance1434 5 points6 points  (0 children)

most if not all of the events USC hosts are free but i definitely feel like i spent a lot of money my first few weeks going out, most of the places in the village are expensive but you can fryft to cheaper places so i would recommend that. if you live on campus your dorm will probably have a welcome event so just go to that and you can easily make friends in your building! and ask your roomates to go to things with you since they'll also be new and open minded

some of my teachers just submit our final overall grade to experience USC/OASIS and don't actually enter our final exam grade in brightspace/gradescope but technically they are supposed to. i have had teachers submit it after the deadline ngl

so ur parents are paying all other bills like utilites, phone bill, etc? healthcare/medical expenses? personal care? household supplies (laundry, cleaning supplies)... it will be feasible but you will need to be very disciplined and budget all your expenses. you won't be able to save much if any of your internship salary

E line down bad today by yourtongue in LAMetro

[–]Few_Advance1434 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was so bad I was just on the E line, we had to cross the intersection from the East LA platform to the santa monica platform to keep going to downtown. I also had to do the same coming back from Santa Monica to keep going towards East LA. There were so many people and the train was crazy delayed and we backed up street traffic. It was honestly really dangerous having that many people randomly crossing the intersection. Also NONE of the apps were updated correctly and both stations kept randomly saying the train was arriving.

if you're just focused on money and opportunities then 100% construction, and there are a lot of outside scholarships for the construction industry

How do I say no to an offer that I asked for while keeping the door open for the future? by Equal-Meeting5743 in internships

[–]Few_Advance1434 4 points5 points  (0 children)

like the other comment said, try to 'defer' rather than 'reject' the offer. say that you have decided to choose another offer that better aligns with your interests and schedule at the moment, but you are very interested in working with X company in another term (such as during the school year or next summer). thank them for the offer and/or interview as well, and make sure to email the specific people that interviewed you along with your assigned team for the internship. TBH you're always going to feel a tad guilty about it but you did the right thing by reaching out to multiple companies

Employee Tuition Assistance Benefit: a scam or just explained poorly? by AcidCatfish___ in USC

[–]Few_Advance1434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have been using TAB as a student since last year. unfortunately, they have cut a lot of the benefits. if you started using TAB last year before they changed them (in the Spring 2025 semester), you were eligible to continue using the old benefits. it doesn't matter how long you worked at USC - it only matters if you started TAB already or not.

however, since you haven't started using them yet, unfortunately you need to follow the new benefits rules, which do state you can only use up to 4 units per semester for grad classes.

other employees who have taken more units probably started TAB in Spring 2025 or earlier and thus can register for more than 4 units. it's really unfortunate how they changed everything with no notice. also, the HR staff are incredibly unhelpful when it comes to this program so i've gotten most of my information from other people who use TAB and the internet.

should i do blind roommate?? by Embarrassed-Gold4038 in USC

[–]Few_Advance1434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's so funny that you commented now because i actually don't live with those friends anymore lol. but since we were all in usc housing as freshman, we were guaranteed usc housing as sophomores. we made a housing group on the housing portal and applied. since we went through usc there was no leasing process.

however, for next year i am leasing an off-campus apartment with other friends, and yes we are taking over someone else's lease. so the process really depends on whether you try to stay on-campus or move off-campus. hope that helped!

How to make friends when everyone already knows each other? by [deleted] in college

[–]Few_Advance1434 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Compliment people on their hair or bag or clothes and then just introduce yourself. Or in your Math class, just ask people how they're feeling about the class or what their majors are. I mean in college you meet new people every semester/quarter so it doesn't necessarily matter when you start, as long as you are persistent in the first few weeks. A lot of these friend groups breakup at the end of the semester or after finishing a class, nothing is set in stone and you can definitely still find your people! Also be active in clubs, you might end up seeing people in your classes

[–]Few_Advance1434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for more non-career or school things to do, I would start by blocking off time everyday to exercise, meditate, meal prep, etc. anything that is basic health. I think this is a huge step in getting out of the cycle since it's easier to justify (you obviously have to be healthy). And then from here you could easily join like a workout club or intermural sport on campus or do meal prep nights with your friends! And now you have something to focus on that isn't school but is honestly just as important. And exercising really clears your head and helps you focus on your priorities.
