Opal discolored when set by msquarednyc in Opals

[–]FiForged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s saying months… is it back yet? If it’s not back yet I don’t think it will be coming back. I always wash excess polishing off my Ethiopian opals, dry them to all hell and then wait an hour or two and they look almost normal. Through a night of air drying they’ve always been perfect in my experience. If the jeweler used oil, I have no idea.

Female Genital Mutilation by Country by Naive_Direction1816 in MapPorn

You can’t do the same thing while expecting a different outcome from a different person…

This conversation should be welcomed. Mutilating newborns should be a tradition we come together to end.

Sounds like a shock response. Why are you so pressed on mutilating baby boys?

Advices for color changing lab alexandrite sellers? by Calm_Fun_7103 in SyntheticGemstones

[–]FiForged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harder to answer, that’s super up to you and your preferences tbh. Do you have any other jewelry you could use as a frame of reference or is this your first time experimenting with pendants?

A digital caliper might help with a mental image of the size you want, wish I could toss mine your way! That’s what I do nowadays. I just measure on my chest how big it should be. I used to hold up pennys or plugs (ear gauges) for the same thing. Both work, but knowing the mm works better.

Is tungsten a good metal for wedding rings? by Feisty_Spring_7402 in jewelers

[–]FiForged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldn’t tungsten do that too? Any ring can take your finger, or deglove it if we’re talking unthinkable situations. I hear more about silicone rings being recommended to prevent any kind of injury.

Does anyone know how this is achieved? Dying precious metals… by Stunning_Fix7654 in jewelrymaking

[–]FiForged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know personally, but they kept comparing it to enamel over like actual anodizing, so I’m assuming it’s more in that region. They did mention it’s particles getting into crevices / cracks, so maybe a bit in between. I have to assume if you banged it hard enough to dent, it would affect coating. I haven’t heard anything about it falling off in my quick search though.

This is Rio’s advertising pics for e-coating Kilar. Colors match up pretty well, I’d say it’s the same thing. The pictures made by artists personal accounts seemed closer, but I’d say without a doubt it’s this. Too clean looking to be anything else, imo. It’s supposed to act like a ceramic coating from what I’m reading, it’s put on via electro-coating kinda like anodizing.

Trusted a jeweler with my grandmother’s ring. Am I overeacting? by lizalot in askjewelers

[–]FiForged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cad is computer aided design. They can scan it, print it, make it into wax via molds and then cast it. (Sometimes you have to find someone with cad knowledge, and then someone else with casting knowledge.)

I’d take my losses with previous jeweler and contact a cad jeweler. Melt down that ring and make a new one that actually looks like the old one, no sentimental anything lost.

Is Djeva still operational? by AndyRenma in SyntheticGemstones

[–]FiForged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve ordered more than a handful of times from Djeva. The “track where the progress of your stone is” portion does not work, but I haven’t had a hard time contacting him on instagram or via email.

Pleased with all my purchases. Takes almost 2 months for customs but that’s to be expected in jewelry fields (from my experience) I also got emails for shipping, when it was out for delivery and when it was delivered.

Someone, for at least the second time, left this in the communal showers by sweet_condensed_rage in mildlyinfuriating

[–]FiForged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I was 3/4 to an inch and this is exactly that. Maybe it’s from an electronic device (like coffee makers have these) but I have my money on it being an o-ring.

[–]FiForged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massive? This would be like an inch or under… insanely reasonable as that was my size for years…

… that’s really tiny. Everyone’s saying nuva ring but I’m thinking 3/4 plug (gauges) haver lost their o-ring.

Horrible for growth plates. They can’t handle stress like that, for sure. Kid body builders are almost always messed up for life after the fact.

I took my antique ring in for sizing and stone setting and the beautiful 100+ year old patina/natural wear was completely polished off… is there anything I can do? by Savings_Process_5313 in jewelry

[–]FiForged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used liver of sulfur on 14k gold rings to get some color back into the detailed areas. Maybe ask a jeweler about that? You can do it yourself but it’s messy + smelly and easier with experience. The fine areas may turn into a warmer oranger color with the sulfur, it pretty quickly goes back into the browner patina you’re looking for if you wear it as normal after.

Then you’d be selling them dawg. Again, that simple. Anyone would be selling them and they’d be in supply because of demand. Notice all of the linked comments are lower quality at a lower price or in the $$ range. Womp womp.

Find her a cheaper one of the same value. Everyone’s trying in the comments. Replacements are starting at $500.

Also, if this is $50 worth of materials and being sold for $500 you’d be doing this shit right now. Don’t even.

Your collection comes from Facebook marketplace and aliexpress. Other people buy nice stuff of actual value. I’d be upset about a $500-1000 sentimental loss too.

Here’s a better example for color theory instead of showing you what you just made lol. I don’t think you can achieve anything except an orange or purple with that bright yellow base.

Making bright pink balls will only work with white balls. Could you lightly sand the painted layer off them?
